I had a property where the rent was a peppercorn a year (hence the term peppercorn rent) and I had another house where it was £10 a year (more normal). I think (but not sure) there was meant to be a new law or something coming out where they had to allow you to buy the lease for the property, but I could be talking small male cows, and when the rent is so low, it isnt worth the £1000 or so they wanted for it, as there was still hundreds of years left on the lease.
When they built my Dads estate back in the 70s the houses all were leasehold land but gradually as the houses were sold on over the years people also bought the land as well as the house. When the time came to sell Dads house this is the first thing estate agent asked me, it was common local knowledge. I had the solicitors paperwork from when Dad bought the house and he must have also bought the leasehold - he might not even have realised at the time.
I think the land was originally owned by Co op diaries.“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. Every day will allow you, --will invite you to add something to the pleasure of others, --or to diminish something of their pains.”0 -

With all the problems the world is facing, from climate change to civil wars and famines, not to mention the terrible devastation that the floods in this country are causing, it's down to twitter to put all that into perspective. Think you've got problems? Pah! Has a swan ever spat in your salsa??? I'll show you problems….'It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.'

One friend mentioned that she had been on a bus, with a mum and child at the 'Why?' stage, and the mum was just telling the child to be quiet - my friend (who has children of her own) pointing out, how else will the child learn?
Anyway, earlier on today I was in my local mini-mart, when a mum came in with her little boy. She was only young (maybe late teens), and he was at the 'Why? stage, such a cutie too. I could hear them as they went round the shop.
"What are those, mummy?"
"Those are baked beans, sweetie."
"Why?"
"Well, people buy them to eat."
[ a few seconds later]
"What's that, mummy?"
"That's toilet roll."
"Why?"
"So that people can wipe their bottoms after a poo."
- and so on and so on, all the way round the shop. She was very patient with him, explaining everything to him.
I was stood behind them at the till. She had him in the crook of her arm, and he was pointing at the sweets one by one.
"What's that, mummy?"
"That's strawberry bubble-gum, darling."
"What's that, mummy?"
"That's spearmint chewing gum."
"What's those, mummy?"
"Those are mints."
And so on, all they way through the different sweets, while they were waiting to pay. Then there was a pause.
"Mummmyyyy..." [with the upward inflection at the end, like he was asking another question]
"What it is, sweetie?"
Short pause, then the little lad reached out and put his tiny hands on her cheeks and said:
"I love you."
Aaaah that's nice. I was sitting down the other day with. Riley 2 and a half and he looked me straight in the eye and came out with " I make you happy don t i Granny " and I said yes you do lol.0 -

No chance here.
Dss1 and 2 here. Just "treated" them to KFC, they are bottomless stringbeans so they had 2 each. And looks like we are in for a Dr Who marathon...
Very strange how their mother does not like them to stay here, except when it she gets to hear we have plans, like Valentines night ...:(:hello: The grass is not greener, it just looks that way from a distance :hello:0 -
