It's not unusual for tradesmen to take 5 days

It doesn't sound as if too much time has passed. I would call him from another phone and see if he answers.

Don't worry too much about it just yet anything could have happened.

If you found him on a site that rates people leave him a rating saying he took your deposit and not seen him since?

Try phoning from another number 1st though. Get someone else to phone and see when they can do a job. If he gives a few days time. Then you know he isnt that busy.
If he says a couple of weeks then give them time to get around to you.

You will not get legal aid for a consumer problem. Try CAB for further advice.

hi again, I really need your help, I have been to CAB and called consumer direct, they say without an address of this plumber I cannot write to him to tell him I want my money back, I have asked the website (rated people) and they say that he has taken his details off and is no longer a member and cannot help me - he is still ignoring my phone calls and texts, I got a friend to call and he hung up on her! how do I get my £200 deposit back from this rogue trader - where can I try to find his address - I have looked on google but cannot pinpoint him at all - I did not want to go down the court route as this will cost me loads and plus I do not have his address just his full name and possible whereabouts - he said he lived in *** but on the website it had another location - please please please help me
    thank you

Did you get the friend to call on the pretence of getting a job done? If not and she went straight to asking about your deposit (or handed the phone to you) then you didn't follow the previous advice.
  • Surely he must have left some paperwork when you handed him the money? If not that's like handing £200 to someone in the street!
