I am in so much pain from my hips. All the reserved spaces were full today in the car park, plus all the normal ones so I had to park in the overflow which equates to almost a mile walk to get to my desk :(. I was in early too, so really annoyed that I didn't get a space. I'm hoping to grab a lift at end of day up to my car cos it's an uphill walk to fetch it!

What can midwife do for hip pain? Do I just need to suck it up for next 14 weeks?

Flutter - they should be able to refer you to Physio at the hospital don't suffer, call them and see what they can do.

I had SPD with my last son albeit 11 years ago and I had physio at the hospital, I even ended up with crutches towards the end which I felt a bit of a fool using but I was beyond the point of caring then. I also used a pregnancy support belt which helped a bit.

I seem to be getting by Ok at the moment, just usual stretching pain/discomfort.

Basically.. suck it up... I've had it with all of the last 4 to the point of being housebound for months at a time... I finally gave in yesterday and dug the crutches out.. I havent used them yet though ;) I needed them from 14 weeks with the last one..

I had 9 physio referrals sent with the last 3 and had 1 appointment a coupl of weeks before the second arrived.. total waste of time! I only got that appointment because the head of midwifery called her and made the appointment over the phone.

She suggested sitting on a ball.. which was total and utter agony.. first i cried in pain.. then I literally fell off!!

She said keep your knees together (then said to spread legs to sit on a ball!???).. I dont have any choice, if I move them it hurts!.. stairs are my nemesis.. I felt the front of my pelvis slip and crunch the other day *&$")*$&"* PAIN!!!

They totally refused any pain relief at all. The elastic belt thing puts more pressure on the back of my pelvis and makes it worse.. so yeah.. sucking it up for the next several weeks is the only option!

Oh.. they also REFUSED to do a physio referral this time, bear in mind it was the one appointment i did go to.. I had hoped getting an early referral would mean something preventative could be done and I explained that.. so I've not even had that to look forward to.

They expect you to jump to attention whenever they fling an appointment at you but then refuse to do the ones you actually need.. there is something very wrong with that.

Oh.. apparently most areas you can self refer to obstetric physio.. ring the antenatal appointment number at the hospital.. the midwife doesnt need to do it.

Think I will ring or text MW tomorrow if it's still as bad, and see what she says. I'm not expecting much help but I'm doing all the suggested things I've seen online and it's not helping.

It is mainly hormonal so there isn't anything they can do to stop it or make it better so it is just something you have to deal with one way or another.. I am dealing with mine through pure stubborness! lol

  • Welcome rinroo and huge congrats kroberts, such lovely news and what a fab weight!!

Flutter- re the chair, it does have a fairly large seat to it but I will measure it up later and let you know anyway. I bought mine from the same guy on his ebay account and I think it was about £10 cheaper but I will have to check.

32 weeks today and moving up that list!!!! Really should think about packing mine and the lil mans hospital bag now

!!!!!!.. typed you a list dinky and my chuffing taplop threw a wobbly.. *RAGE!*

glucose tablets.. if blood sugars drop contractions stop!

knickers and a nightie you don't mind binning!

wipes to scrape off meconium.. a thin layer of vaseline on the bot stops it sticking so much so you don't need sandpaper to get it off or a power washer!

hat.. they like to stick them on at first!

don't forget your shoes for coming home!

    phone charger!!!

I had a carrier bag with a vest, sleepsuit, cardigan, nappy, hat and blanket in.. so OH could just grab it and dress the smalls without raking through my bag of stuff to find the 'right' bits.

    binbag for dirty laundry!

socks.. I do hate cold feet!

Breastpads you are unlikely to need until day 3-5 when milk comes in.

toilet roll!!! NOTHING worse than cheap crappy hospital bog paper on your sore nethers.. take your own!

I don't want to do this... is it too late to change my mind? The closer it gets the angrier I am getting.. I can't bear the thought of the hateful hospital here.. I don't know whether to rage or cry!.. or both.. that is my usual go to!

Linky to hospital bag on this post. Some bits might not be relevant to everyone, so take it with a pinch of salt. I will need the breastpads for example, as I already leak now, but others may not.

I read elsewhere that the Flipflops are because of using communal showers. Lots of post birth women using them - cleaners aren't able to clean immediately after every use, so the floor can become....well, I'm sure you can guess.
