Hey, so went to my first antenatal class yesterday (NHS one), was good but lots more people turned up than they were expecting, so all crammed into one room and rather warm! was useful though, lots of stuff on 'preparing your body for labour', exercises to do etc - made me determined to take my pregnancy fitness dvd out of its wrapping and use it! also going to look at buying a bouncy ball
Interestingly they said vaginal examinations were totally optional in labour, which surprised me a bit. I think someone else on here was told they were compulsory. They said rarely they do have to intervene if baby needs it, and in general most women chose to have them (as it gives a specific indicator of how things are progressing) but that they had no problems if you chose not to have them and they use other measures instead.
Fingers crossed for Bubblepop's baby arrival! xx0 -
hippihaz - glad you had a good antenatal class - ours was good too. It was me who struggled with the whole vaginal examinations thing - I don't want them but have been told that I have to have them and other words like "refuse to co-operate" were used - alongside the whole "but if you don't consent we can't do them". It's the one thing that worries me about going into labour and going to the hospital.
It's a shame that other methods aren't more widely used to assess the progression of labour (purple line, maternal behaviour, fundal height etc.) It's been very interesting researching about it and that assessing how many cm dilated you are can be wildly inaccurate (quite worryingly so) and of course it assumes that labour will be progressing linearly!
eta: oh, for anyone wanting to use a birthing ball thing, check out this website for lots of useful hints and tips and exercises...

Morning all,
Good luck bubblepops.
Thanks for the link princess.
Krusty, yes it likely a pregnancy thing. I never wear nightie or pjs and always wake up in a sweat. I was warm at night before pregnancy but it as definitely gone up a notch.
AFM, nursery decorating is coming on. DH and I put wall stickers on yesterday of a tree with owls and monkeys in it. Going to decoupage a chest of draws today. Wish me luck. Never done it before. If it does not work then I have a lovely throw I can put over it 😃
Starting our antenatal classes on Wednesday so looking forward to that.
Enjoy chocolate weekend. Xx0 -
Hi everyone happy Easter weekend
hope, everyone is well and looking forward to eating lots of chocolate lol nothing much happening here except a very active painful bump today so maybe she wants out? Could be wishful thinking lol she had to stay put until yesterday coz hubby had made plans for us as a surprise but now she can come any day
Hubby and my best friends organised a surprise baby shower for me yesterday at home, 2 weeks of secrecy and hubby leaving the room on his phone has driven me mad! Me and bump are well, and truly spoilt now with gifts and sweets/cakes etc plus we got to play silly games and have a laughreally don't think madam will ever wear all her clothes tho! Xxx

I'm currently having to go in to OAU daily for bp checks but as I have no other symptoms of PET they don't really know what to do with me. It's a bit annoying but there we go! I've had a couple of sweeps now & am 2cm diluted but nothing much else happening! Walking round is pretty uncomfortable & I'm getting some irregular tightenings but nothing that I think could be leading to the main event!
If only there was a way to make labour start, it's the not knowing thats hardest!0 -
I think nipple stimulation is also a goer for getting labour started because of increasing hormones, can't remember which ones, also orgasum with parter or alone.
Things have been a bit crazy with me, I have had a nightmare few weeks, bad back, hip, bum foot pain, vomiting bug, cold and then my dad had a heart attack last Sunday (he is doing fine they operated straight away and he came out of hospital thurs)
Today we have been sorting stuff out Moses basket, car seat, clear up of the garage and a pack away of stuff down there to make more room in the house for baby stuff. Wish the weather was nicer this weekend as have washing to do of mods basket, sleep bags etc.
Gp referred for me physio got letter through, went to book appt and the first one is after my due date so going to speak to the midwife Tuesday to see if I can somehow get it expedited. Have written my birth plan and will tackle midwife with it Tuesday for home water birth, I then see the consultant in vbac clinic the following week.
Need to order tens machine, birthing pool and possible a new cot for bubs as well.
It's all becoming very real and exciting.
3 more weeks left at work and I will be workings 2 days rather than 3 as its a struggle with my back issues.
Good luck to all those ladies who are playing the waiting game.:jMarried 16/07/2010, ds1 born 11/08/12, baby due 08/05/20150 -
Sorry to hear about your Dad Jediquigley. It's good they acted so fast. Hope he recovers quickly. Also hope the mw manages to bring your apt forward, though my friend who's pregnant with twins and has severe spd couldn't get hers brought forward!

Happy Easter everyone. Hope you have a lovely day.
No news from me. Still getting a lot of braxten hicks contracts but no pain with it. Just waiting now for my sweep on Tuesday and be good to know if I have dilated at all yet! Hopefully it will finally get things going.0 -
Hope everyone has had a good Easter weekend.
Jedi - hope things are getting better for you after bad few weeks. Glad your dad is going ok.
Milly - hope things get going soon.
All the preparation is exciting! 31 weeks here today. Serious preparation will start after my daughters birthday in 2 weeks. 6 weeks left of work for me. 3 are 4 day weeks and the other 3 are 3 day weeks so only 21 dats in total which isn't bad.0 -
So after daily bp's for 5 days & 3 weeks of monitoring I've cracked & am going in for induction tomorrow! I could have gone back in this afternoon but thought it would be good to have a bit of time to sort a few bits round the house & spend some time with OH, going to go out for some dinner later & then wait for a call tomorrow when there is a bed available. Eek!!0
