    Re baby showers

I've made it perfectly clear I do not want anything of the sort. I don't agree with them. When one was mentioned for my sister I stopped all talk, which my sister was very appreciative off.

But what did I find out 2 weeks ago?

That my SIL has insisted they plana surprise baby shower for me. My dad had heard via an uncle but didn't know it was a secret so started asking me about it. I went MAD. Had ago at my sister for letting it happen! She says she has done her best to rein my SIL in and it is only an afternoon tea out with friends and family at a hotel.

Now everyone knows I know, so not to worry about keeping the secret. But even tho they all know I'm not happy about it one bit, it is still going ahead. They just keep saying "you'll enjoy it on the day".

I try not to think about as I get really angry and upset that they have gone against my wishes but I'm blaming it on my hormones so not saying anything more.

They don't seem to get that I don't agree with baby showers of any kind, even if there are no games or presents.

My principles are going to have to be left at home!

Sorry for the rant, it's really gotten to me!!!

Just to add, this is the same SIL who says we can't have our fav name if we have a girl! She is not in my good book atm!

  • Congratulations Nicky!! Would love to read your birth story if you ever feel up to writing it all down for us :)

I had a baby shower with my last pregnancy, and have been involved with organising showers for other pregnant friends. Presents are never expected but usually the Mum gets a few bags of preloved baby clothes or anything else that could be passed on from others. It's mostly an excuse for tea and buns, cake, and a good natter about pregnancy, birth and baby stories! No silly games or gimmicks ever experienced, I feel sorry for the poor U.S. mums who have to taste babyfood or put nappies on a teddy.

I had my whooping cough vaccine yesterday, and doctor decided we might as well do the flu jab while I was there. So I'm sore in both arms today!

I had one last time but was no presents (although i did get a couple) and mainly involved tea and cake! We did a couple of games but was stuff like people bringing their baby pics and us guessing who they are. Was lovely to see all my close friends before baby came.

    !

But I've spent the last 8 months with people just talking to me about baby's and everyone telling me their stories. Quite honestly, I'm a bit fed up of the constant baby talk!

Which is ironic as I'm on this forum everyday talking about pregnancy!

Huge congratulations Nicky! :j:T:j Please do join FB group if you haven't already, always love to see pics :) Hope you're doing well and are at home now? Rest up and enjoy motherhood!

Princess kate - Eek for the lady who had her baby at 36 weeks! Makes it seem a lot more real for all of us near the top of the list now! I've still not packed my bag but the list is in my notepad and I've bought most the things I needed to so can always get my Mum or DH to put it all together if baby decides to make an early entrance!

I know we've spoken on here about baby showers before and they're very much like marmite - you either love them or hate them!
I was personally against the idea as the people I know that have had them did seem to use it as an excuse to have presents brought for them which I disagreed with. In the US it seems standard for the mum to be to give everyone a 'baby register', much like a wedding gift list, and I hate the idea of people being forced to contribute.
I was never planning on having one, but my friend insisted on putting one on for me and its in two weeks time. I'm very much on the same page as Princess, gayley, jedi and wendz in that I told her I don't want silly games involving blindfolds and nappies, I want to use it as an excuse to get together and have a catch up with friends, family and cake :)
Despite this, I've been really worried about the whole thing as she created an event on FB and even though I know about it, she's kept me out of the group so I don't know what's going on and that's the bit I hate. She also keeps ringing my mum asking what I need and want so that she can tell guests, but I've told her I don't want anything. Despite this (because my mum told her I don't want anything), she's asked everyone for £10 to put towards a gift or a voucher so I just hope my friends realise that it is her idea and not mine, that they don't have to feel obliged to contribute and that I'm not actually asking for anything! I feel like I've been going behind her back but whenever I've seen my friends I've told them to please not feel that they have to give £10 :o My Mum keeps telling me that everyone knows I'm not the type of person who would have asked so I shouldn't worry and just enjoy the day and I'm sure I will, but I can't help feeling like I'll be glad when its actually over and done with :o

Milly - if you really feel so against it then just tell them straight up that you don't want one and tell them your reasons. Yes you might upset them, but you sound pretty upset yourself about the thought of having one, and who should be the person who is kept happy? You! :p There will be nothing worse than being the centre of attention when you're going to despise every second by the sound of it, no matter how good the intention was. As for the baby talk, I can understand you may be fed up of it all but I think we've all got to accept that this is all we will be talking about for the coming future as the baby will be the focal point of our lives and everything we do will be around the baby, whether we like it or not :o

    Hello everyone!

I'm pleased to announce the arrival of Isabella Louise on 20/02/15 weighing 7lb 13!

After keeping us waiting (9 days overdue) and a fairly long and difficult labour she shot out causing me a few problems but she is a beauty and has taken to breastfeeding with no problems. We are so happy!

Will get added to the Facebook page so I can post some photos.

    Congratulations Nicky!!!

Look forward to seeing you over on the FB page ! :)
