Thanks Angelraesunshine. I'll mention this to my daughter, I'm sure she'd rather not have the bags in the first place. (tho she might have started doing it this way since I last visited a couple of months ago!)... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

£140 for me this month. There is me, partner and one cat. OH does a bit of the shopping and spends his own money then! I really need to get organised with planning meals, and I might then do a big Tesco shop to last for a few weeks. I'm veggie, and OH is a big meat & 2 veg man so we tend to cook separately. I try to take packed lunches, but if I do buy lunch at work that comes out of my £10 weekly unnecessary budget. Well I'll see how I get on. Good luck everyone!ilovefreegle.org - give it away don't throw it away0

See you all next week with my update (thats if I'm still in budget  )

After advice given on last months thread have sat down and worked out my first monthly budget for July:j
4 adults living at home for dinner and packed lunches – 2 body builders but not the horrible vein popping type just want to look and feel good
2 girlfriends for dinner – one 4 times a week the other 5 times a week
1 son for packed lunches and occasional dinner since splitting up from partner, he has his own place but works with us so like to make his lunch for him – also body builder
1 visitor about twice a month for breakfast, lunch and dinner – diabetic and low cholesterol diet
1 guide dog – not sure what to allow here but will just include this in monthly budget
Was advised £20 per week for each adult at home and bread and jam for girlfriends:rolleyes:
Doubt they will appreciate that and I am used to having an open house if one eats all eat
Have allocated £10 per week each for girlfriends and son
Not allocated any amount for visitor this is going to be my “magical moment” and just stretch what we have. Not a problem just a challenge :rotfl:
Therefore I have allocated £440 for the month
Sounds a lot when I look at what the experienced challengers allow but I am going to keep a record of everything I spend and then I will have a guideline for next month.
Today’s spend has been:

I think I have got quite a bit in the freezer and got plenty in the pantry. Am going to make a list of everything tonight and then plan menu for the month. Use to do this all the time but stopped when we started up our business, working long hours and 7 day weeks. But the time has come to get back on track with everything now.
Well can’t wait to see how the month goes and am really excited to be joining in:T:wave:0 -
Sorry folks don't know what happened to my nice excel budget schedule but it looked alright when I pasted it:o . Here goes again, fingers crossed
NO IT'S JUST NOT HAPPENING. HAD A LOOK ON PREVIEW POST AND STILL GOING HAY WIRE.
Well cut a long story short, and I thought I was being so efficient, I spent £22.21 at sainsburys today:wave:0 -
They don't usually work, I wouldn't bother with it katherine. If you want to add running total to your signature click on user cp then edit signature and enter your stuff in there, many find that easier than keeping posting everything especially when working from excel.
Keeping a list of what you buy and use is a great idea, gives a good insight into where savings can be made. Just from a quick glance, pickled onions, may work out cheaper to make your own, same with the seasonings, which knowing what most seasonings are like will probably have high salt content so you can tailor them to be more healthy aswell. Custard powder sure there was a recipe on here somewhere aswell, it's mainly cornflour IIRC, don't like it myself, icky stuff. Just as suggestions of course, some things just aren't convenient for some people or could work out more expensive but those are the types of things I would look at if I was wanting to reduce spending. One day I might be more organised...........
