I seen a dietician yesterday and have meal plan ideas from there but determined to use up what I have in first and adapt it, considering one of the suggestions are 'ready meals' ewww no thanks would rather make it myself!

li_me, do you mean that your dietician suggested you eat ready meals?

Ah well... that's that then. And it's not as if they deliver, either.

Is there anyone on here who has similar issues i.e. more than one littlie to take shopping? How do other people do it? I feel as if I'm shackled to Mr T!

We have four children born in the 50's and early 60's. When my DW and I went shopping she pushed the pram and I dragged/carried the eldest. In those days we had to visit the butcher, grocer, greengrocer, fishmonger etc. Then, there were no plastic bags or trolleys we provided our own real bags. I can tell you it was bluddy exhausting. We are perhaps lucky these days having everything under the same roof, although I would really prefer the old ways. :o

If you are feeling stressed out shopping at Mr T, why don't you order online and have it all delivered???

    Enjoy your line-drying, ladies.
It's quite sunny here in east Berkshire, although I'm keeping a close watch as showers are forecast.

I'd be fine if DH came with me, but I'm trying to get domestic stuff out of the way during the week so that we can relax a bit during the weekend. *hollow laugh*

Ahhhh... that was my downfall pre-MSE - all those 'minimum £50 spend to get money off' codes - I won't order unless I can get a code to cover the cost of delivery... I'm dead tight me.

Anyway, shopping will get easier as the babies get bigger. I'll be able to go whilst they are at school soon enough. And in the meantime I'll enjoy the challenge. :D

As for today, it's stopped raining and I came in £2.24 under budget!

I have been seeing a psychologist and a physio who have both suggested I buy ready made meals too. I bet there will be docs etc in different parts of hospital who try to convince patients not to buy ready meals. I explained that apart from nutritional point of view that we couldn't possibly afford to feed six on ready meals. I don't think they see too many OSs there.

I have all menus planned for the month. Lunches as well as main meals. We are expecting quite a few guests this month too but am hoping I can stay within budget.

Hmm, well I had a change of plan - instead of picking up a few bits to see me through to the end of the week, I decided to do another big-ish shop to try and last to the end of next week. Most expensive things bought were two trout for £2.74 (should do me four meals though), dried apricots for snacks (£1.78) and mini bottle of wine (£1.48) as treat for having spent the whole day tidying! Stocked up on rice and lentils which along with my giant bag of pasta should last till at least the end of the month so hopefully should come in under budget... fingers crossed.

Yes it was on the diet/meal suggestion sheets she gave me, a low fat ready meal of any variety up to approx 800 kcals I think it is. Told her my thoughts on the matter, she said 'we have to make sure the leaflets suit everyone'
One day I might be more organised...........

  • Good weather didn't last, but it was long enough to get 2 loads dry. Mainly down to eagle eyed OH (normally drives my crackers when he works from home).
Had to give in today and go to little Mr T, (Master T?) and get milk and sarnie fillings. Will add it to tomorrows big shop total tho. No cheating!

What do people think of Costco? I can't decide if it saves me money or costs me down to spending on other things while we're there. Perhaps the trick is to go alone, can't fit many of their big packs in my little Corsa tho.

Had Sky installed today so should save some money on TV and broadband now. Thanks Martin, good one.
