Great positive thinking :T
The thing is HB, that time is going to pass anyway - you may as well have something to show for it (or maybe nothing to show for it in this case)
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

So true all in it for the long haul, and it really is a mind set. At least none of us are adding to the debt so thats an achievement in itself. We are all doing fab. We just need reminding now and then when we hit low points and feel like nothing is happening.:beer:Visa £[STRIKE]5063 [/STRIKE]now 0. Loan 1 €[STRIKE]4885[/STRIKE] now 0. Yes, and when it's nearly payday and you're down to your last two quid! Just organising summer holidays today, seeing what we've got on already and where we can go in the van to cheer myself up.
One of our dogs has to be taken to the vet today as well. She has a problem with her uninsured leg! So that will cost a packet! Will there ever be any savings?Feb 2014 to now

So little dog has had an operation to remove a metal pin from her leg from when she broke it four years ago. She is fine and the bill has come to £220, which is a lot less than I thought it would be. Daughter has had a good day at the craft fair, other daughter has just got a new job for Sept, so all is well in the Historybuff household. Oh, and dad came up trumps with a joint of beef for tomorrow's dinner! Budget still intact, but really looking forward to payday on 23rd! Nine days to go! We will make it, but it's tough!

Didn't make the carboot! Weather rubbish for a kick off and tired anyway from staying up to watch the football. So no additional money this week! Got to survive the next seven days on as little spends as possible. That means the frugal cookbook is coming out again.

Hi Historybuff, shame the weather stopped you from doing the carboot. At least your dog's leg is on the mend. You are doing great at dealing with your debts, you will find it tough to keep on track in the months to come, but keep the faith, it is worth it! I am now debt free myself, in credit with my normal household bills and have thousands saved, so even though it takes years, we can all achieve that golden moment of being debt free0

Thanks sugar! It's good to know that there are people out there that have stayed the course and got themselves debt free. I am really determined to do it. It will take years, but now I've got the changed mindset I'm keeping on with it. I so, so wish I had seen the light years ago, but whilst I was scraping by and had credit available it was so easy to just add more and more and fool myself that paying the minimum was ok. What a fool! Anyway, as you say, even if it takes years, it can be done. I'm on the way!
Today's positives:
Using son's car, so free petrol for the commute this week
Campsite booked for Cropredy weekend in August

I've been doing sums and checking pensions etc today and have worked out that my mortgage, debt free and retirement date is 31st August 2021! That's what I'm working towards. 86 months from now. 86 payments to go. Then FREEDOM!
Once the mortgage is paid off, I will pay off what is left of the debts from the pension lump sum and jump for joy!
That's the plan, anyway. Thankfully, I love my job, so an additional four years working is not too much to bear. Four more years working, though...that's the price I'm paying for years of chaotic finances. I've basically lost four years of retirement. Right...I am, this moment, vowing to get fit and lose weight, so I am ready to enjoy my retirement when I finally get there in August 2021. I will also be doing everything I possibly can to try to pay things off quicker to try to gain some of my lost four years back! Time...can't afford to lose it! I want as much of it back as I can get!Feb 2014 to now
