Ive seen many returns at Argos, where staff member opens box, glances in it - WITHOUT TAKING ANYTHING OUT - and seals back up - giving person a refund.

Surely Argos are aware this happens.

I have family working at Argos - they say stock control will tell them if a similar item as previously been returned - so its then feasable that its been re-sold. Stores are aware of the problem - and one of my family was shocked a customer would be treated in this way.

But im not convinced by the stock monitor - because i believe that items returned online may then be distributed to stores etc - so the stores own stock check may show an item was not returned. Maybe thats why your store is so adamant - the stores AURA stock system is saying none of that item as ever been returned prior.
  • Thanks for the information. I really do think that Argos believe I actually used the item. It's a shame really as the more people I talk to about this issue the more similar stories I hear.

I've got the contact details for the area manager and am about to draft a letter. I'm glad to hear that not all Argos staff would act in such a manner.
  • Furthermore, Argos have breached my Statutory rights here and I should not be forced into a position of trying to return it to alternative stores just because they behave in such an unethical and illegal way.

I like your attitude :) Please post updates, I've been following this thread waiting for justice to be served on Argos!

Just give it a quick clean and take it back to another argos as faulty, they rarely check the items before giving you a refund.

Which would just make the OP as bad as the previous person and simply perpetuate the problem rather than solve it.

No it wouldn't, it would get them a refund for goods that shouldn't have been sold in the first place, the OP is the victim here, not Argos.

You've obviously completely missed the point. And if OP gets caught trying to return used goods where will that leave him? He can't prove he didn't use them at this late stage but still stands a chance of getting a full refund via the correct channels and exposing the fact they are re-selling returned items without inspecting them.

  • It could perpetuate the problem.
They receive item back, then sell it as new to someone else.
OP is doing the right thing by being above board, and if anything did go to court, they'd be able to show exactly what they have done and none of it is dodgy.
  • Argos are always selling reused items a few years ago my parents got a kettle and took back as faulty then the replacement one was faulty and the third one we were sure was the first one again.

When I bought a sewing machine from them that was clearly used and didn't work properly we took back as it was faulty but left a note in the box stating it was faulty so anyone who got it subsequently was aware
