If I buy anything from Argos I always open the item at the counter in full view of the staff as I have twice had items that had been returned as broken but Argos tried to sell them again.

I've had some success complaining to Argos via their Facebook page. Worth a try.

Complain on Facebook and Twitter if they have it, I'm sure they'd rather refund you than have the bad publicity!

You have to see it from their point of view, you buy an item find another half price elsewhere and think you can just return it after dinner(Devils advocate).

It used to be that Argos didnt even check sealed boxes but the trick has bee done to many times now to catch them out anymore.

They think your at it and you getting it half price elswhere doesn't help your case.

That doesn't really make sense though, if OP had used the item they would have just taken the shiny brand new one they bought in Tesco for half price back to Argos for a full price refund, not tried to take the used one back.

Id assume the barcodes wouldn't match when attempting to return the Tesco one to Argos.

This is largely irrelevant as the Argos returns policy says you can do this, thus making it legally and morally acceptable.

OP, I feel sorry for you. I echo the above - complain on Facebook and Twitter on their pages, that may get a response.

Barcodes on packaging are barcodes, goods don't have different barcodes for different shops.

The serial barcode scanned at Argos would be identifiable to the box. So unless you swapped the contents then when they scanned the Tesco serial barcode then it would not correlate to the original scan.

Goods don't have different barcodes for different shops but they certainly can have different barcodes for the same product but different spec or different manufacturing date/batch numbers.
  • The model I bought from Tesco is a slightly different model/colour and packaging which is why it was half price.

I am so upset by this but thank you for your comments. I have no alternative than to just accept it as it is.

I have however contacted Tefal and Argos direct, posted on Argos multimedia pages and out of sheer desperation contacted BBC Watchdog. I expect no end result but do feel better for at least trying.

I already feel like I've been robbed and laughed at. The last thing I need is to feel like I have just rolled over as well.

The OP says that they found a similar one from Tesco, not the same one.
