It would seem from my digging around that HL used to be prepared to negotiate on fees if you said you were leaving, but presumably word got out and too many were asking, so they stopped it.

It would be very interesting to hear from anyone who has negotiated a discount in the last year or so. I need to move a pension soon, so asked about a year ago now if there was any scope for reduced fees if I moved it to HL......there was no negotiation really, just a polite "no chance"..:).

I like HL.....the website is good and they seem efficient and fairly quick (at least with the limited number things we've asked for over the years).
We keep two smallish SIPPs there, but the bulk is kept elsewhere, due to the very high fees for larger balances......I wouldn't mind paying a bit more, but when it gets to 4-5x more then, for us, that's just too much of a premium.
The absence of drawdown fees might swing the pendulum back a bit for some though......

You can of course go for mainly or even just ITs, ETFs and shares, and so effectively limit/cap your HL account fees......which might be attractive for some too, but it does limit your choices quite a bit (though I've no doubt you could still build a reasonably balanced and diversified portfolio that way)
