Sucralose, Sacharrin, etc - the difference?

Options
I have to try and avoid fizzy drinks and drink water with flavour added to it (don't like water on it's own) but I need to avoid the sweeteners and sugar they add to practically everything nowadays.

So anyone know what the difference is between all the sweeteners and are any of any safety for tooth health?

If not, where on earth do I get cordial without these added nasties or added sugar. I checked Holland and Barrett but found nothing.

There was a woman on the morning news about a week ago. She said that since she had stopped using sweeteners she felt 100% fitter, was more healthy and the green slime on her teeth had gone.

If you wait long enough someone will come along and tell you that sweeteners cause every disease known to man. Including tooth decay.

I actually don't think there is much difference between them, I'm sure they are all made of the same thing.

I'm pretty sure you won't drop dead, or get slimy teeth if you use them either, but I bet others will be!

I have had this cherry juice from Holland & Barrett in the past. It is the best tasting stuff I have tried but VERY expensive compared to anything else

As an alternative I would suggest you try something from the Vimto "no added sugar" cordial range

I know some sweeteners are carcinogenic and tooth decay (dentist verdict today was shocking) is the reason I'm asking :)

@dlusman - doesn't vimto cordial have artificial sweeteners in? Not that I'm a fan of vimto anyway, tastes strange to me.

Yes - but was my favourite of the alternatives that are available at a reasonable price. You are not going to find a "normal" cordial that doesnt have artificial sweetners

Really, which ones and where can I read about them please?

    It's only a game

Sugars from any source even fruit will decay teeth. The feel good drinks have the equivalent of two spoons of sugar per glass! The same goes for cherry juice, adding lemon or other juices to water. Lemon is doubly bad as it is acidic as well. The same goes for fruit teas which are full of sugar and acid.

You are fine to drink sugary drinks, fruit juices etc with a meal but In between your drinks need to be sugar free. Water is ideal but artificial sweeteners do not cause decay. One in particular xylitol has a lot of evidence to say it inhibits decay. Although it is present in some sugar free chewing gums I am not aware of any cordials in the uk that use it. However it can be bought as a powder to sweeten tea and coffee etc.

Ps no added sugar just means that no EXTRA sugar has been added other than that from the fruit in the cordial. That means they still contain sugar that will decay teeth as it's not the amount of sugar you eat or drink that's the problem it's how often.

Tried that in the past, can hardly taste the fruit so it's still horrid tasting.
