Have just checked on my auctiva account.

You can 'right-click protect' your images - which mine are.

So if somebody comes along and decides they are going to copy your photo for their listing it will not allow them to do this.

I love auctiva - it enables me to have as many photos as I like but only pay ebay for one!! If you haven't tried it, do have a go, it is totally free of charge.
You can also schedule to list to Ebay without any fees too

Sure it is, otherwise they wouldn't have the option to report it, and the one I reported wouldn't have been pulled.

    Sounds like you were unlucky.

... sorry, but there is no way they can stop it. If someone wants to copy your photo it's just a press of a key. Only a logo in the photo itself will identify it as yours.

It takes a lot of time and effort to photograph items nicely, why should a lazy so and so pinch someone elses hard work. And I also don't want to be associated with other peoples aucions, often you can see clearly that it is the same photo and buyers will think you're connected to both auctions.

You pinch my pictures - I report you until its removed.

But a buyer of mine did relist an item I had sold her using my photos and this was fine - I know they actually have the item and that they're not ripping people off.

Which leads to another point, as a buyer I would like to think that the photo on the listing is of the item that the buyer is selling, even new items can vary in condition. Its dishonest to use photographs which are not of the item you are selling.

    Rant over !!!

    You are WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!

If you 'right-click' on any of my listing photos on Ebay, listed via Auctiva.com, it will NOT ALLOW you to save the photos!!!

This is FACT - go and try it for yourself. Find a listing using auctiva - easy to spot - provided that they have the 'right-click block' enabled it will not allow you to save/copy the photo.

    As above!

I don't often check on similar items that I'm selling but decided to recently as with only 8 hours to go I was disappointed with the bidding - I found someone else had stolen my photograph, so I messaged them requesting that they remove it. They couldn't because there were bids. I sent 2 requests through to ebay and surprisingly it was removed within 2 hours-ish :D
I got a nasty message back from the other seller bless! but as floflo says, I've taken the time to photograph and describe my item nicely, why should I let someone else claim they're selling my item - How are buyers to know who is selling the actual item?
I know my items, brand new or not, are in excellent condition and want buyers to see this. Using your own photographs and detailed descriptions, I think, encourages more buyers/bidders - Why would I want a buyer to bid on another item using my stolen photos?! Why should I do the work for some lazy so and so?!

When buying, I also expect the item that is shown in the photo to be the item being sold in the auction, not someone elses.

You right click, hit your space bar (and maybe right click again) and it will let you save it

It's not recognised as copyrighted by eBay. I once sold an R2D2 Droid, somebody in china completely cloned my auction, the pictures were taken in my bedroom!

When I reported it to eBay they said they couldn't do anything and I should have put a small logo in the picture so I could prove it was mine! Never mind that this person was obviously trying to defraud someone..

If you fill the right form in, they ask for the original item number with your pictures in, thus proving it was yours.

If you host your own pictures (probably more trouble than its worth for most) then you can protect them from being copied using simple html. I'm sure there's quite a lot of my pictures being used, if I find them I will report, but largely speaking it isn't that much of a problem, only when it starts affecting sales and I can't see someone who is so lazy they use My picture being able to list/describe/sell better than me.
