Idiosyncrasies, foibles and aversions.

I thought it would be interesting to hear about some of those little peculiarities some of us have, habits we've developed over the years and things that we have become averse to.
For instance, in my own case I've had habits that I can trace back to my earliest years, these include bizarrely, breaking all the feathers in duvets and pillows, rubbing pillow case corners, the tops of back jean pocket corners, and the seams at the bottom of the legs, all of which although destructive, I find comforting.
Also, I'm one of those people who hates untidiness to the extent that all objects must be correctly aligned, tassels on rugs, cans in the cupboard, grocery lists in shop order, clocks synchronised etc (anally-retentive, I know).
In addition I hate cotton wool it really sets my teeth on edge and I know someone who has a fear of buttons (weird).
So, I was wondering whether my foibles were really that unusual (I'm hoping not) and what if you're brave enough to say, your own are!

Mmm, I like forks and spoons to be lined up snuggling in the drawer. I hate washing-up piled up in the sink - it all has to come out and be placed on the right, and go into a clean sink full of water."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

I fold or pleat material between my fingers and toes. Most often the bedclothes but have been known to do it with a skirt as well. My mum says I did it with my blankets in the crib from being a tiny, tiny baby! My husband always notices me doing it when I am stressed.
I can't stand the sound/sight of a hand or foot being rubbed on material, like a bare foot rubbing on a carpet. It is like nails on a blackboard to me!0 -

Im right handed but when I eat (sorry if this offends anyone, but I live alone and my lack of manners doesnt hurt anyone), I use my fork in my right hand instead of my left and if I have a knife and fork, once my food is cut up, I eat it with my fork which is in my right hand. It just feels odd to me to hold a fork in my left hand.
I dont like polysytrene or the squeak of markers if someone is using a marker on a bit of card and it squeaks.
Tuneless whistlers (Im so turning into my mum here), my mum cant stand people who whistle and its just a whistle they are making up and it goes on forever, I used to say to her, whats annoying about that? Now I cant suffer it myself, I was at a bus stop the other week and a window cleaner was whistling but it was one he was making up and it was going on and on and on, I was like arrrgh, stop it.
People who scuff their shoes on the pavement and dont lift their feet when they are walking. Its not the habit so much as the noise it makes.
If I go on a bus I more often than not sit on the left hand side, sitting on the right feels a bit odd.
People who crack their knuckles, it makes me feel ill and the sounds of people crunching polo mints, makes me feel like its their teeth that are breaking.
I really should walk around with my ipod in my ears most of the time.0 -
my OH says I am OCD about hanging washing on the line! it has to be done 'properly' or I go out and re-do it!
I also like the cutlery to go in its right section in the cutlery tray - but to me that is just 'common sense'. why have a divided tray and not put all the forks in one bit, the knives in another etc?
bedmaking - now that is a real bone of contention! OH will get out of bed and just chuck the duvet back over! arrrrrrgggghhhhh - you are supposed to peel the duvet back - let it 'air' for a couple of hours then smooth the bottom sheet, fluff up the pillows and shake the duvet over the top and settle it nicely.
Perfume - I can appreciate perfumed candles, I love them! just don't light the bu99ers! TOO strong! also if you are invited to Sunday lunch - please don't bath in perfume or body spray first! really puts me off my dinner - plus I am in danger of having an asthma attack!
and there IS a correct way of folding towels in the bathroom - and its the only way that the towels will fit and hang properly on the towel rack....is it too much trouble to do them that way?0 -
Hate my windscreen wipers being up when parked, if they move before I switch my engine off I have to put it on again until they're down
I move my placemat away from me when I finish my meal, only realised this recently when it was pointed out to me
I hate having my fingernails being painted, but hate not having my toenails painted
Certain accents set my teeth in edge

Not at all MSE, but I throw away the first tablespoon or so of each pint of milk. I think it's because I didn't like the 'cream of the milk' when I was a kid and we got non-homogenized milk from the milkman - but that was a very very long time ago.
I'm trying to stop - I do know milk from the supermarkets is the same all the way through - but so far all I'm really achieving is that I only do it when my husband isn't looking.0 -
Scarab, I don't do exactly what you describe about the corners. But I pull the thinnest of thread out from hems and pick it it, although not with my nails, just the edges of my fingers/thumb. And the more it catches on my skin the more soothing it is. Yes, lock me up now
Oh and meritaten, the cutlery not only has to go in the correct section in the tray, but also all the right way up! I can't stand a piece being upside down, it throws the whole lot out. My ex used to think I was crazy for this and mentioned it to my Dad, who simply replied that everyone should have certain standards below which things should not slip - so it's probably genetic!0 -

Oooooooh....people wearing flip-flops who shuffle along flapping their horrid shoes......I hate it!
When you go to the supermarket and buy one item and the assistant says "do you need any help with packing?"...:mad:
I can't stand the tops being left open/off of shampoo bottles, toothpaste, shower gel etc. Just shut the top, it doesn't take any time at all!
And leaving the toilet seat up!:mad::mad:
Why can't men do the ONE thing that will really make a woman happy? Put the bloody seat down when you've finished!
Rant over! (for now
) "I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0 -

And we did the exact opposite. When we used to have our milks delivered in pints, all the bottles in the fridge would be open, with the first inch poured out because everyone wanted the creamiest bit for their cereal or coffee0
