I am coming back by this road from work Mon-Fri for the last 2 years now and all the drivers drive from that lane in the same way I did in that accident and I used to go from the right lane to the middle late for the first while before as well but a few drivers started arguening with me and beeping, that's why I started doing it differently( like everyone else).... I was not saying I am right here, I was just asking for people's opinion matey

I wasn't havin a dig at you, it was purely a 'theory' in response to the previous post. Whichever way you look at it both you and the truck ended up in lanes you never started in... I have no knowledge of the road personally, but what I will say regardless of however you normally drive if there's a large vehicle in a lane you need to adjust your driving accordingly, whether that be give it extra room, hang further back or whatever, .. Not to say the truck is entirely blameless, but it's easier for you to spot a big truck than for it to spot a small hatchback. I am of the opinion that the best outcome will be 50/50, but that's just an opinion... And would advise for you to report it to your insurance.
An opinion is just that..... An opinion

Thanks for all your replies, I have not contacted my insurance company, decided to have some thinking and call them tomorrow morning, a few more questions:
    1. Is it 24 hours you have to report a car accident?
    2. What happens if they report about it and I don't?
My friend is advicing me to give the guy's company a call and ask if they are going through insurance or not, they just have a few little scratches on ther truck, what if they just decide to leave it? is it not going to be better for me to spend £400-600 on my door and keep my NCBs ?

What's best for me to do now? any options?

    can anyone else answer please?

    Answers to your questions:-

    1. You will not be reporting to the police so no time constraint to worry about.

    2. The insurer will look dimly on your actions as you are meant to report all accidents to them. In reality you have to decide how likely it is that the driver reports it to his boss and he to the company insurer, you should have got a feel about that at the time of the accident.

As a haulage company they are more likely to have an in in house repair shop and will in effect self insure and just repair the damage themselves.

If it was me I would be tempted to keep quiet as I doubt this will go anywhere.

You also need to consider your car's corrosion warranty.
If there is corrosion later on due to a non-approved repair, then your corrosion warranty would be invalid.

Yes you can, don't know if anyone else has answered, but you do need to inform your insurer even if it's just for notification purposes, where ever you take it, make sure they do a good job, which may not be cheap, ideally after replacing the door skin, the spray should be for the whole side of the car so that it's properly blended in.

I wouldn't bother with the police or insurance. Take the hit and repair it yourself. Learn from it

What the OP may learn from it, is if he doesn't inform the insurers and the other party has

The other party will most likely self insure for small dings. If he tells his insurer then he will pay a higher premium. You pays your money and takes a chance.

Do you tell your insurer when you have reversed in to a bollard (or similar)?
