Minor Accident with Bolllard

Hi,

I've got some damage to the front of my car due to hitting a bollard.

there is minor damamge to the bumper, the grill & even the bonnett, as shown on the photo below.

since there is no third party, i'm wondering whether to sort the repairs without involving the insurer.

Sorry, as a new poster I can't post links

Thanks

Who owns the bollard and is it damaged?
  • Thanks for replying.

It's a council bollard & there is no damage. I have photos of the car & the bollard

How old is the car and what do you think it is worth?

If it is old, not worth much and safe, keep driving it as is I reckon.

Newer, then you need to have a think about costs before you put a claim in.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?
  • Car is probably worth about 6k at a rough guess. It's almost almost 5 years old

You "should" inform your insurance company but whether you do is a matter for you.

Sod the insurance. Pay for the repairs out of your own pocket. Doesn't sound like it will be much and be more careful in future ;)

To damage the bumper and bonnet might mean there's more hidden damage once they get the bumper off as that sounds more than a tap.

For once it wasn't me! ;)

I didn't see it happen, but I was told it was very slow & I was surprised by the damage. It looks purely superficial to me.
