There will always be people who make these sorts of claims - maybe for self-aggrandisement, maybe for publicity, maybe because they have an axe to grind (legitimate or not), or maybe just maybe because they have a genuine story to report :cool:
I do not condone his methods particularly, but everyone has a right to free speech in our so-called democracy (
- If he bandies claims about MSE in the public sphere then he best have the evidence to back it up - lawsuits on the horizon if he's not careful
- If he is genuinely exposing 'cheats' then who wouldn't want this brought to light - it seems people are happy if large companies are caught out 'cheating' with comps/prizes and brought to task, so why not individuals?
- If he is a journalist, then he will need to abide by some sort of journalist's 'code' surely otherwise he will find himself in big doo doo
- If indeed he has contacted big companies about 'cheating' in the comping community (or is he targeting MSE entirely here??) then it would be good to stamp out any cheating as surely that benefits us all (ie. encourage companies to always make random selections of winners where applicable rather than on a 'voting' system which can be undermined, or game apps which allow the highest score to win, again these can be manipulated by those with the techie knowledge)
- If there were no comping communities (MSE, Loquax and many others - I haven't explored much beyond MSE so wouldn't know how many) then companies would not get the exposure and huge returns they do from the public at large (compers or otherwise)
I'm not sure why we should be particularly concerned with this - let it run, see what happens, pick up any pieces if necessary afterwards, carry on comping:rotfl:

Looking at the posts that he has made within the last few hours about the Cushelle and Aunt Bessies comps and to some extent the Vote for me thread, personally, I think that he does have a point. But I'm pretty sure that companies realise that the posting of codes happens and if they were at all concerned they would find a better way of running their competitions. It's their Marketing guys that they need to be looking at.Luck is believing you’re lucky – Tennessee Williams

nope , looks like he is doing this in his own name, and is not affiliated to any news outlet. he hasnt even said he is a journo. he can say whatever he wants. only people named by him [like any 'cheat'] can sue him for libel
even if he is a journo, youd be surprised what you can get away with in "opinion" columns0 -

Paranoid Much ?
Not at all, but that comment seems to confirm the previous one :rotfl:A strong man stands up for himself, a stronger man stands up for others.0 -
Don't you think it would be interesting to see what he has to say instead of reporting him and having the account closed?snakepilsen wrote: »Definitely, Why would anyone be scared of what he has discovered ??Not sure what you're inferring but I'm not a cheat so not worried in any way, shape or form
So where did I "infer" YOU were a cheat ?0 -
I don't condone cheating or cheat to win comps, but his 'findings' so far aren't really making me gasp with horror or feel particularly bothered about reading the article when it's 'published' in March. I'm not sure many people will be that interested, it's of interest to us for an hour or two as implies a level of cheating on here and that Martin Lewis is promoting cheating but if I'd come across this before I started comping I wouldn't have bothered reading it. So much more of interest going on in the world.
I'd imagine it's just some A Level student having a bash at investigative reporting. Hope he'll work out how to take the caps lock off by March0 -
The op's link brings up that it's currently not available.
Please let's not get into accusations of who said/inferred what. It's easy to misconstrue text when you don't have face to face conversations.
We've probably all seen episodes of cheating mentioned at various times- using programmes to win games to get the highest points etc.
We are responsible for our own comping ethics. And anyone who makes allegations needs to be sure they can substantiate it- just in case they're called upon to justify it in a court of law...
There can be a thin line between opinion and slander/liable as a few journalists have found in the last few years...0 -

Agreed, there is certainly nothing worth reporting him to Facebook over and attempting to get his page taken down.0 -
