Responsible and Affordable lending are the new buzz words. Driven by regulators. Though in the mortgage industry lenders have been ahead of the regulators for some time now. MMR becomes effective in April this year. FCA takes over role of supervising Consumer Credit from 1st April from the Office of Fair Trading. Though they have already been looking into Consumer Credit in it's widest sense for a while. Credit card companies are already trialling changes to how they share and exchange data via CRA's.
  • Same here - got rejected despite having excellent credit score. The rejection email clearly states that they use Experian and Callcredit - I checked both and my score is excellent. Any idea if this is now going to reflect badly on my credit history ?

I think MSE should add a note about this on their page where they recommend this card, since judging by the number of posts on this it seems many people get rejected for this card.

The score Experian and CallCredit sell you is not the score that Halifax use.

Why would it? It's just a credit search, which does not say whether you were accepted or rejected.

Not many people come to this forum to say they've been accepted. Why would they? Most people only tell someone when they've had a bad experience.
  • Fair enough..

Good to know it won't affect my rating. I'm still considering writing to Halifax just to see if they'll explain their reasons..

My application was also rejected, possibly because I have a Halifax Easycash account, opened a few years ago solely to obtain a Visa Electron card and is not my main bank account, the details of which I provided on my application.

I don't think that will be the only reason if a reason at all.
I was recently accepted for a Clarity card.
I have an Halifax Easycash account for the same reasons as you. I also have 3 Reward accounts that have an average balance of around £1 each but are funded with £1k for a few minutes each month solely to obtain the £5 rewards. I also have (unused) credit limits of at least 1.5 times my annual income available on other credit cards. My main account is with Nationwide and does not show on credit reports as it was opened in 1988.

I have no other Halifax accounts.

Yes I did. It was an instant acceptance.
