You said your mortgage free and debt free. Thats probably the main problem. You'll probably find you have no credit history (Credit report only shows last 6 years) so your an unknown to lenders and considered as high risk as someone who has defaulted on debts. You'll probably need to start building your credit first with a credit builder card.
Have a look at http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/bad-credit-credit-cards and make sure you pay off any cards in full each month so you pay no interest.0 -
Thanks for the reply. I've only been mortgage free for around three years, plus have other cards where I spend circa £20k a year on - always paid of each month.0

As to the reasons, well it could be anything, but I'd guess not enough recent credit history to base a decision on?
Or could be financial associate issues, ER issues, too much available credit elsewhere, or simply that you don't fit their target market. You'll have more of an idea when you get your credit report(s).0 -

Is it because Experian told you that you had 12 months ago (when you paid them some money to buy it)?So, no mortgage debt on your credit file...no credit card debt on your credit file, and a good salary that Experian don't even know about? Not sure how you work that out? If you can't get another fee-free on forex spending card you're the one losing out aren't you?No black mark...merely a credit search is recorded.Better to get one from Equifax and CallCredit too, unless Halifax have said they only searched Experian?Lots of posters on here (who also say they have excellent credit scores) report being declined for this card.

I know I've a good score, just did a online test and scored 963/1000 putting it in the excellent band. Also see my second post, regarding mortgage & credit card management.0 -

The number doesn't really mean anything.
Did you check all three of your credit files? Just because one looks good doesn't mean the others necessarily will as well. Sometimes there is erroneous information on one/some/all of them. You need to check all three to get a full picture. What will your verse be?

Your scores you've paid for are meaningless worthless numbers that are sold only for profit for the CRA.
Halifax has their own unique scoring system and wouldn't care what silly score some company scores you."You know when it's cold outside when you go outside and it's cold"0 -

Neither of these companies are associated with Halifax, therefore their score is meaningless.
Are you an existing customer with Halifax? If so, you may have an internal credit policy decline marker on your accounts. They will not have credit checked you in that case.0 -

And I have available credit over twice my "good salary" and (stoozing) debt of well over my annual salary.
They're simply a gimmick...as you now realise, hopefully?
But seriously, can you not see the flaws in those "tests"?...especially if you got the same scores on each, when the second asks for vastly less info?
EDIT: I see checkmyfile suggested 3 cards I may be accepted for. Now, forgive me for being sceptical, but I wonder if applying via there will earn checkmyfile a referral payment. Actually, I don't wonder...I know. Click one of your suggested cards to see.
I think I'll rest my case there. Good luck in your search for a comparable card (or your appeal to Halifax).0
