    Corned Beef Hash.

Chopped potatoes boiled with a chopped onion and some carrot.

When soft add a diced tin of corned beef and stir through add some gravy granules.

    Easy, low fat and cheap.

You could leave out the carrots if you really don't like any veg.

Help! I'm hoping some of you wonderful people can give me some advice.

Im 12 weeks preganant at the mo and am contastly tierd and nauseous.
When i get in from work the last thing i want to do is cook a meal from scratch, i just want to stuff food in my face then fall asleep! Last night I couldn't be bothered to make the potato bake i was intending to make and i asked the OH if he'd like to make it-he was tierd too so we resorted to a ready meal. Now we NEVER have these but i bought them as they were woopsied and i knew they might some in handy but they were minging really tasstless (was a tesco spinich and ricotta canellonni).

Anyway my plea is can anyone recommend cheap, quick and easy (and nutritious as I suppose i have the give the little one the best start in life!)meals sometimes we have resorted to Domonios pizzas yet as they're £15!!! They are really not worth it and i'm trying to save the pennies.

So what im looking for is quick meals to save us from the take away people and also if anyone can recommed some actually nice (inxpensive)ready meals?? Do they exist?? Or even say bottled sauses etc??

    Many thanks in advance.
  • Stir fry?

My mum makes the ultimate cheap and easy meal. Put a pan on to boil some water for later... Chop an onion, chilli and some garlic, lightly fry it off, add in either raw/cooked prawns or chicken breast cut into cubes, cook until meat is done, add whatever ever veg you have to hand (we use sweetcorn and mangetout), cook for a little longer, add about two tablespoons of pesto, then the same amount of creme fraiche, and then some spinach. Put some gnocchi in the boiling water, cook it for three minutes until it floats, drain it, add it to the other pan and stir it all up. Cooks in about 10 minutes if you get the timings right :)

My favourite when im really sick meal is chicken ramen:

Boil up a pint of chicken stock, with a sprinkle of chilli flakes if you like them
Add some cooked chicken (leftovers or deli or whatever)
    Add some spaghetti or vermicelli
Once almost cooked add some spinach until wilted but still green

Very nice and a good meal

Pasta and noodles are generally good for quick meals. I do something very similar to wssla00's chicken ramen but with Thai curry paste and frozen prawns, which again takes no more than 10 minutes to make.

Pasta with pesto is good, too, and only takes as long as the pasta takes to cook - you can add veggies to make it healthier, and you can get lots of different flavour pestos to make it interesting. (Pesto isn't the cheapest stuff to buy but you don't need much per meal so it doesn't work out too bad.)

The best bottled sauces I've tried are Seeds of Change - they're the only jarred sauces I'll buy - they're not cheap, though, unless you can get them on special offer.
Back after a very long break!

Cocalls, do you have a slow cooker?
Bung whatever you want in a morning into it, and get home and its already cooked :) best type of ready meal!
Great for leftovers / cheap cuts of meat / stew / bolognaise / curry and a gazillion other things! Take a look at the slow cooker thread for the wonderful things people come up with - easy, cheap, tasty and best of all, its 5 mins in a morning, and dinner is done when you walk in.

aha yes i do have a slow cooker-im not very good at using it tho i think i tend to add too much stock and i tend to get soup rather than a stew say-i tried to make chilli in it one time and it just tasted boiled but i shall look at the thread for some further inspiration cheers.

Another simple and cheap meal idea that actually borders on cheating as there is no skill involed what so ever. Put some pasta on to boil, fry some garlic and mushrooms and bacon in a little oil, drain out if lots left , add bout half a tub of creame cheese ( i buy asda stuff with herbs and garlic already in it ) mix with some milk till you get desired texture then drain pasta and stir in. If your feeling really tired dont bother with garlic, bacon and mushrooms just use creme cheese with garlic in and add some cooked ham. Realy simple but tasty , think asda have the philly cheese at a £1 a tub just now
Thanks to MSE for making it possible for me save to buy my new flat , yay !!
