Ah bless, my DS is a bit of a mommas boy too. I will be interested to hear what your mortgage company say about early repayments and fees etc as I was wondering about that.

  • I had a panic last night that I was near my 10% OP limit which was 10% of £4887 as of Jan but then remembered at the last minute that I am actually on SVR yay :j so can OP as much as I want.

I rang Halifax just now to ask my daft questions above. As I am not on a fixed rate I will not have any early redemption fees as I am not on a special rate to get out of. I'll just have a admin fee of £50 to close my account etc.
I then asked regarding will they just take what is left on the account on the last month but they say their computers are not that clever and it would still take the payment the following month. A report is then generated each month to show what payments have been taken in error and the extra payment is then refunded.
I asked if I had say £800 left and paid £850 to add the extra fee would that be ok. He said no they would not recognise that I was paying the charge and I would need to do this over the phone by debit card and I can then request to close my account at the same time. Also then cancel my DD my end to make sure it wasnt taken out the next month.
I feel better now I have spoken to them.
When I went onto SVR my term changed as I upped my payments and they have my end term as 13 months left. But I have it as FOUR months (have I mentioned that before ;) )

  • Another tilly tidy this morning, making this months total £51.17 so far.

Have OP'd £250 this morning. Getting ever closer to possibly finishing in April :p I need to OP another £630 or so for that. Doesnt sound much does it but I'l have two months of no CT to help and hoping my car service/MOT doesnt take all my funds I have put aside.

Keep seeing january kitchen sales and getting excited about next year (even tho this year has only just started haha)

Did a couple of hours of comping the other night, I am too picky on prizes tho, there are some proper weird prizes out there. I didnt want to enter just for the sake of it like some do.

    Afternoon everyone.

Not been able to OP as much as I would like at the moment. Have booked a holiday and had to pay a deposit, have had quite a few birthdays, have been quite a socialite so spending money where I dont usually (have to admit it is grating me a little bit, is that daft!) I guess as I am so close I dont really want to spend money willy nilly.

Have OP'd £100 this morning making my balance now £2331.59.
I need to OP another £540 to finish in April. (this does not include any ending fees) I am tempted to use some of my savings to do it and then top it back up again once done.

  • I am glad that you are getting out more and enjoying yourself. I know that when you are used to being frugal it is quite hard to get back into spending mode, but I am sure you are not going crazy!
    Have fun,

Hi norfolk dream, that mortgage balance is amazing. It is hard to spend when you are used to being so careful but you afford to treat yourself. Where are you going on holiday?

  • HI All,

Have OP'd £500 over the weekend and so this leaves me with just £12 something to OP to be able to finish the mortgage in April.
The reason I left a little bit was so they could still take my full MP in April and then I will just ring up and ask for the final payment figure which should include just the extra £50 charge I was told.

The thing is I thought I would have a lot of money to play with once the mortgage was paid off but on thinking about it I would like to pay an extra £100 towards my pension, and start paying £100 PB a month. I also have a UK holiday to pay for by end of June so will pay that in full with my first MF month. Also I would like to join the gym and I really need a new boiler sooner rather than later so that will be the first job. But I also want to go on hols abroad next year. arrghh.
I shouldnt moan as its a going to be a great situation to be in my 40s :D

That's great you have almost finished Norfolk. I know what you mean about extra cash though, I felt the same when nursery fees reduced. I still write 'nursery £xxx' in my monthly budget to try and make sure it doesn't get swallowed up!
