Hi, has anybody had a letter (or two) from a firm called Digital Satellite Warranty Cover ?, I've now had two leters from this firm saying "Urgent Notice" (bright red at top of letter) telling me that my Sky digital satellite system warranty is about to expire.
Apparently I need to ring a 0871 number to cover myself.
Is this a legitimate letter from sky or what ?, seeing as I have Sky + and 2 other systems, I have to pay upwards of £130 per year for this cover.
Anybody with any experience of this firm could they please post
Thanks x

Satellite warranties
We are very concerned that some of you have recently posted about being approached by companies offering satellite warranty products using misleading selling tactics. We hope this post will answer your questions, update you on what we are doing to try to prevent this from happening and explain what options are open to you if you are affected.
What is Sky doing about it?
There is only one extended warranty product that is approved by Sky and operates under our brand – this is the Sky Repair Plan and is provided on behalf of Sky by Domestic & General.
We are aware of a number of other companies offering extended warranties on Sky equipment. Some of these companies actively misled customers by passing off their warranty products as being provided or approved by Sky.
Last December, Sky won a High Court victory against two such companies – Satellite Direct Ltd and it’s sister company Satcover Ltd – after an 18 month legal battle. In his ruling, the Judge described some of the sales techniques used by telesales staff at Satellite Direct and Satcover as “a blatant lie”. The Judge also ordered injunctions to stop these companies passing themselves off as Sky.
We continue to pursue these matters where possible and take companies to task who are acting unlawfully to protect our customers. We are also trying to raise awareness of our approved Sky Repair Plan – for example by advertising in our customer magazine, so that it is clearer which plan Sky endorses.
How are these companies able to contact Sky customers?
Independent companies can legally offer extended warranty products to protect digital satellite equipment and it is your choice as a customer whether you take a product which is approved by Sky or one from an independent provider.
However, you should be aware that:
• These companies are not connected to Sky or in any way endorsed by us.
• We do not provide customer data to these companies
• If these companies do call you, remember that you are within your rights to ask them how they obtained your details under Section 7(1) of the Data Protection Act.
• It is unlawful for them to state or imply that they are approved by Sky to sell extended warranty products
• You can register with the Telephone Preference Service and Mailing Preference Service to stop cold calls and mailshots.
What should you do if you think you have been missold to?
• You should first complain directly to the company that contacted you.
• If this does not resolve the matter, you should complain to your local trading standards office
We are very concerned that some of our customers are being misled and want to do whatever we can to prevent this happening in future. You can help. If you have been missold to, please email us at mysky@bskyb.com with a complete account of your experience and we will assess whether we can use the information to take any further action.
Thank you.0 -
this has been posted on a number of occasions. I did request in writing under data protection how they got my details but all I got was a reply that they had bought the names from another company. My guess is the installers.0

I have had loads of letters about that, I ignored them. Sky provide their own warranty, they have nothing to do with sky.0 -
If my Sky breaks then the subs would be cancelled, unless they fix it... last time my 3 year old box broke I got a "free" Sky+ replacement0
-
We got a 'phone call from them a couple of weeks ago - for once, instead of putting the 'phone down I kept them chatting for 10 minutes before telling them I didn't have Sky and never have had. They took it well....0

If you have an old box just complain to sky it no longer suitable and they will arrange for a Sky + for free, however this only woks it seems if you are on their top package £ 45 a month. They don’t like losing their milk cows.Lets not use quidco0

If, as I am, you are registered with the MPS and TPS (see Deanos post)then submit complaint(s) to them. This was done after receiving repeated letters and 'phone calls from this company (Digital Satellite) and requesting them to stop. There are, I think, more than one of this type of company, I've received stuff from them too.
My complaint must have worked, there's been nothing for months now.
I also asked Sky why my details had been passed/sold on, they of course ignored that.
I upgraded to Freeview from Sky ages ago but still received these communications!!
Sorry, I can't believe that Sky don't sell on personal details.0 -
They are absolute shockers, using scare tactics to sell way overpriced assurance policies. It hurts me to think that they may actually be making money from some poor, vulnerable people.Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0
