interesting
had a called last wednesday, they claim to be sky, told them to call back as i wasnt able to stop and talk, they called back on friday and it was a sales call
I have BB and sky + hd,
December 2010 i get the sky + hd all installed and sorted, apart from the slap dash cable laying that is in my loft is a bit of a trip hazzard..
anyway this phone call, from sky, telling me that i now own my sky equipment, oh i say.
so now that i own it i should have insurance for it, really i say, well it's 2 months only so should be covered by warrantee or guarantee?
oh yes it is he says but for only one year and only by the manufacturer. oh right i say.
but if you were to take out our insurace.... i stop him quick, not in the first year i say, you said it is covered.
ah yes he says, but if there was an electrical fault... then the household inurance will take care of it, or the manufacturer in the first year... i butt in.
yes but with our exclusive insurance.......
oh well i say in that case i will have to say NO, i don't sign up to things like this over the phone without talking to the OH about this... and looking into it.
oh ok i will ring you back?
No i say, IF i want it i will ring you,
you can't he says, we don't accept incomming calls
oh i say
I'll call you he says, next week?
ok i say, but i might still not want your special insurace...
so is this sky insurance a bit of a scam then?0 -
so is this sky insurance a bit of a scam then?
Just read these two pages!
I really do not see any point in getting insurance. If the box dies after the first year either
1- Call up sky and tell them to replace to you'll cancel
2- Buy a new box from ebay £20-£80
3- Cancel and rejoin when they do a promo0 -
I don't think it is sky who is selling our information on, I think it is the installing people who are doing it. Why on earth would sky sell info on when they have their own warranty people (domestic and general) ? seems a bit daft.0

i just had a call from one of these companies and told them i wasn't interested and was subsequently told to 'f*** off'.
twice !
incredible.
sincere apologies for the language but need to share this experience with people.0 -
It's been a long time since we've heard from these so called insurance people.
We had a couple of letters and I think 1 phone call, but had nothing for ages.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £26,322.670 -
My downstairs neighbor has one of these warranty plans, despite me saying that he doesn't need it as if something went wrong,Sky'd only charge him £65,not to mention that as I worked for Sky,I'd fix it for him for the price of a couple of pints (plus parts if I needed to buy any) but no,he insists on the warranty. The amount of money he's paid over the years to these scammers............0

Most of the more legitimate warranty providers will have received your name from a company called Phruit. Phruit runs a lifestyle survey and sell your details on to third parties and you can ask to be removed from their data.
I always decline the option to have my details distributed so I'll progress the matter with them directly, but feel free to contact them (see their web-site) if you feel this is the case with you too. Be aware they may have been sold to several companies, so requesting your removal from the database of one may not stop all the calls. Also, less scrupulous companies may sell your data on again without your knowledge or consent. I think this may be the case with Digital Warranties in particular. Just to re-iterate, Sky does not use any extended warranty company apart from D&G (they're the biggest and generally the most responsible too). Any implication that details were obtained from Sky by one of these other callers is untrue and dishonest and can be referred to TPS (if you're registered) and the Information Commissioner.0 -
I have Sky Protect and have used it for about 4 years now. I called Sky when our Sky+ box was playing up and the kind lady told me that as we were out of warranty it would cost us a call out fee of £65. However she said that we could set up Sky protect and then they would deal with the call out and we would miss the £65 fee. Not many insurances will cover you once a problem has arisen!
In the years since we have had it (we have an ordinary Sky box in my son's room as well as the Sky+ in the living room) we have had more than our money's worth IMO, we have had 3 Sky+ remotes sent out to us (they are about £25+ in Argos) and have had a brand new Sky+ box and complete new cabling and dish at our new house as well as a new Sky box for my son's room. We get the same engineer coming everytime and the service is first class, usually we only wait for a couple of days at most for them to attend.
You pay for what you get and I don't mind paying Sky protect, we use our Sky+ a lot and hate being without it, so IMO a tenner a month for cover is peace of mind.0 -
I've found this through google as tonight I've received yet another phone call from Aireal services/solutions (can't remember which it was) saying that my cover was about to expire (still has 4 months left) and as a valued sky customer we were entitled to a deal of £60 a year rather than £90. I'm always wary of these things as a) I've never heard of them and b) they always want your bank details over the phone and are never happy to send paperwork out for you to complete and return. Has anyone heard of them before? If I'm honest, we've got sky protect and we've definately had our moneys worth (numerous replacement boxes and then a deinstallation/reinstallation - which was the original fault) plus 3 sky remotes. If it's just something little I do know an engineer so I contact him first and see if he can help otherwise I just give them a ring. When he phones back tomorrow I think I might just decline his offer and tell him to remove my details. that or just say we've cancelled the subscription.0

The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0
