Surely under the "sale of goods act" a box should last more than 1 year!
Has anyone successfully got a free repair/replacement after the 1 year has expired?0 -

We got a full system (new dish, lnb, cabling and box) replaced after 6 years. Just have to know who to complain to/ how to complain!0 -
Tell all the Sky customers how, then!
Quite simple, emailed James Murdoch and explained we were having problems with SKY (the box kept saying "No signal being received" on various channels) Explained we had been customers for 6 years and resented having to pay a call out fee after paying so much over the years (we are on a £38 a month package) and we got a phone call the following day saying an engineer would visit and check out our system for no charge. When he arrived just chatted to him and asked if there was any chance of an upgrade. He said no but said that he would swap everything out. And that is what he did.
So i suppose it was just politeness and persistance that paid off.0 -
Just been contacted about renewing my Sky warranty. It turns out to be a company called IDS Ltd (tel 01903 881430). No mention that she was not from Sky. Has anyone had any experience of them? See this article - http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/01903881430#pbpeMQz4OHABsCAjK4lz8QA0

Fast forward to 2010 and the company DWSC, Satellite Services or whatever they are calling themselves this week is still getting away with duping people. We got caught out this week. We had just had a letter from genuine Sky regarding warranty which is due and this company phoned and talked my partner into giving our bank account details by pretending to be Sky. He had no reason to think it was not Sky. I was out at the time but when my partner told me about the phone call I realised it was not genuine as we have an ongoing direct debit in place. Have done all I can to try and stop them getting any money and emailed Trading Standards to advise as well. The last time they tried this scam on us a couple of years ago I was on the ball, this time not so lucky. This trick has been going on for years and its time it was stopped once and for all, but they keep changing the names and are very good at their game. They must be making thousands selling people non existent warranties pretending to be Sky. No amount of Trading Standards intervention, Court injunctions etc etc seem to make a blind bit of difference they are still getting away with it0

I would just like to say that NOT all of these companies are scam artists
we have sattellite services warranty from a company called nationwide satellite services ( or something like that ) based in Liverpool
our sky+ box died a death on sunday morning - I called them at about 3.30pm Sunday afternoon she went through a few things with me, established I did need to speak to an engineer - he called 9.20 am monday morning, tried a few easy fix solutions which didn't work and he said to expect a call later that day from Roger, the engineer who would be coming to sort it out.
being an avid reader of these forums I did a search on the company and read loads of horror stories and was beginning to think I had been scammed - but no, Roger phoned made an appointment for between 11-2 on Tuesday ( the next day) he arrived at 10.55 am
came in, diagnosed the problem as a dead box, replaced it, set it up and was gone by 11.30
no problems at all.0 -
Just read this thread and was surprised how much this sort of furore would help sky keep selling expensive products. They must be over the moon at this bad press as they no doubt charge domestic and general for the privilege of being authorized.
I am not condoning scam artists and sadly they operate in all industries but this sort of coverage makes it impossible to work out who offers a fair service and who doesn't. The result is that everyone is forced back into sky hands and they can happily rip them off, and if a bona Fide company wished to offer a cheaper and fairer price they would be tarred immediately and probably fail.

My repair plan with Sky costs £0.0

Despite Sky saying it's not them that sells the details on, I am 100% sure it is. My Sky subscription is under my maiden name and is the only thing I have in this name, almost exactly a year after it's installation I started getting calls about the warranty running out. I was getting 3-4 a night from about 2 different companies. I called Sky and told them THEY must have sold my details, the lady on the phone agreed it seemed that way, and after I inisisted they contact the people they had sold it to and removed my details, the calls stopped almost instantly about a week later.0
