It does indeed sound like your HDD has gone walkabout. Try this as a last resort. Switch off computer. Leave for 2 minutes. Hold down 0 (zero) key, keep it held down and and tap power key. What I'm hoping for is below the list will be a "Repair" option which you should select and then follow onscreen instructions. If it doesn't work it looks a new hard drive I'm afraid.
will give it a go thanksi came into the world with nothing, and guess what? i still have it!!!:p0 -
As that is a last resort... try this first...Try this as a last resort.Start the computer and press F2.- Do the same trick with F2 to get into BIOS.
- Instead of the Boot option recommended earlier, select Advanced
- Scroll down to where it says >System Configuration (if it's like another Toshiba I've seen)and press Enter
- What does it say for Boot Mode? If it says CSM Mode, you could try changing to UEFI Boot and seeing if that works.

Another is to turn off, then turn back on and tap the F12 key a few times during boot up. There should appear a list with possibly the repair option at the bottom.
If we're playing around with the CSM, look into the second (I think) page of the BIOS and see if "Secure Boot" is enabled. If it is click on it and set it to "Disabled then F10 and see what happens.
Desperation stakes now I'm afraid, lol.
We'll probably end up having to replace the HDD and if this is the case another Win8 copy which could be a bit pricey. I don't know what you use the computer for but how would you feel about installing Linux Mint?0 -

sorry pressed before I was finished, never heard of linux mint,
how much will I be for a harddrive?i came into the world with nothing, and guess what? i still have it!!!:p0 -
Linux is free, good if you don't play games, you can have FB, email, general things. Linux Mint is one I have on another computer which I didn't want to pay WinXP for. It's easy to download and install but that doesn't answer to Disk Drive problem.. What area are you in. Only tell me the county if you want to.0

no repair option at the bottom after pressing f12
not sure how to get on next page of the bios to see if secure boot is enabled.how do I do that??i came into the world with nothing, and guess what? i still have it!!!:p0 -
F2 and second page. Use the arrows to go across. Bottom line should say "Secure Boot" and if it is enabled.0
