Normally I would agree with the not micromanaging, but this is incessant. She has split from her husband due to (we think) an affair which is continuing. We think it's him she is texting (silly grins, big sighs, you get the picture). The rest of us probably get one, maybe 2 texts a week - this is a dozen or more every hour!!

Hopefully the change of scenery will make her see what is acceptable..

Keep her busy, she won't have time to text lover boy then :)

Only in certain circumstances can it be accepted in work. I could not stand around gossiping or texting on my phone all day long whilst I am at work.

But were there an emergency at home, or my child becomes ill at school, I think it is reasonable to expect a call or text message being received and\or answered.

    Change the temp.

Which would be best, hotter or colder?

We're not allowed to use mobiles at work although it's a data protection reason rather than a micromanagement one. We are allowed to browse the internet when the call volume drops.

Yup life story in the first 'we need to have words' meeting. Then tears. That was 6 weeks ago.... There's lots more details, but I just wanted to be clear that other companies don't put up with this before I set my stall out to her tomorrow.

Quick question for all please -

Does your employer permit texting and use of personal mobiles during work hours?

We have a temp with us at the moment who cannot understand why it's frowned on at work.... I'd just like to see if it's only my place of work!

It's completely banned in the office here.

In our case it's because the bank needs to show the authorities that it is doing everything that it can to make sure that all deals go through recorded lines; mobile phone calls and texts are an obvious way around this.
  • It's fine to use a mobile in my office. Take calls or send texts nobody minds.

It's all about give and take. However nobody takes the !!!!, if someone were texting all day I'm quite sure they'd be told to stop it asap.

As long as our work mobile bills don't go over £250 a month and we deliver our work, no one says a thing about calls or texting.

Majority of staff use their mobiles to listen to music whilst working and the code is, 1 earphone in and they are happy to be disturbed, two earphones means naff off, I am focusing.

Same here, but I have worked for other companies doing similar roles, where camera phones were banned.
