The symptoms you describe sounds like a lambda sensor. They arent used until the engine warms up. Whats it like when you floor it? From warm i mean...

Solid light means a fault code will be stored.

Flashing means a misfire has been detected and using the vehicle under this condition can cause expensive to repair damage to to catalytic converter.

My Micra did a similar jump when the lambda sensor went on it, the jumping was due to it going into limp mode and I had the amber engine management light on constantly.

Where abouts are you im the country? It would deffinatly be worth taking it to a garage that are good a diagnosing faults.

These corsa's had/have a known fault with the coilpack so it could be worth phoning up a vauxhall dealer and asking them to check if its had a bew coilpack fitted.
They also suffer with lamba sensor, maf, map sensor faults to name a few.its very hard to try and diagnose a fault without seeing/listening to the car.

Unless the eml is on, there wont be a code stored. There may be faults pending, but things like a MAF don't give a direct code, only when there is a wiring break, you go instead by the other contributory codes and good sense to properly diagnose intermittent faults.
    Find a local, recommended garage.
  • I would have said coil pack. My Mondeo went through one about every 10 months and it had these symptoms. When cold, do you notice the rev counter hunting? That is at idle, do you see the rev counter just moving eversoslightly up and down regularly? If so, that was a sign to me that my coil pack was about to play games.

Frankly though, where did you attempt to have your codes read? Your revision of Corsa has been around long enough for the later diagnostic equipment to have been made available to indie garages! If your garage couldn't read codes, that speaks to me they're probably not using the correct code readers.

Added to that, failure to read code readers would, in my mind, have led to any mechanic worth his salt to have a look around at other potential issues! At the very least, I would have expected them to open the bonnet! To me, it doesn't sound like this has happened due to at the very least an alternative avenue of investigation or possible cause being offered to the customer.

Or, are you by any chance using a fault reader you borrowed off a mate who got it off eBay?

Either way, EML = codes are stored; the fact that they have not been read means you don't have the gear to do it!

Did you get this issue sorted?
  • Hi!

The same thing has just recently happened to me. I have a Corsa 1.2 sxi 10 plate. It isn't under warrantee anymore. My engine management light keeps flashing and my car keeps juddering when I try to accelerate! :(

I've called my local Vauxhall dealer for JUST a diagnostic - £65!!!! I can't help but feel a little ripped off here.

Shall I just bite the bullet and pay that or go somewhere cheaper??

    Thanks :D

Yes the Pedal test has not worked since 1998.
    This is an OBDii interface.

Think you need to find someone who knows what they are doing.

Not sure who told you that but I am afraid you are wrong - the pedal test does indeed work on VX cars post 1998 - especially EOBD ones (OBDII is the american standard EOBD is the European one)

Although you are better using a VX specific code reader.

Sounds about right for a diagnostics at a dealer - I paid that about 4 years ago when I had my last one done. Ended up buying my own code reader after that!

Hi guys, wondering if anybody can help me I have a 1.2 sxi 60 plate corsa it quite new so didn't really expect any problems, the energy management light has come on, it drives fine for about 4 miles then it starts to jump but not cut out, it feel like a juddering sensation I have taken it to have a diagnostic test however no fault shows but the light is still flashing on and off and the juddering still accrues any advice on what I could do next ?? Thanks :)
Take it a garage that can actually use the diagnostic equipment.

If the light is on there is a code stored in the ecu

also the engine management light should not be flashing on and off
    is it this light? engine-warning-light.jpg
