Before anyone goes blaming their broadband, connect your computer with a CABLE to the router, to make sure it's not your WiFi. This is also really important for testing lag, which the OP seemed interested in. If the XBox is wirelessly connected, wired will do better.
In my case I've always used a wired connection.

Sorry for such a late reply i have been away with work.

My router stats are as follows at this minute (wireless):

    Broadband Link Downstream Upstream

Connection Speed 6141 kbps 617 kbps
Line Attenuation 36.0 dB 43.7 dB
Noise Margin 6.3 dB 6.6 dB

    Does this seem reasonable?

I have read through the replies and appreciate all the help.
My router does sit in the front room where any of the equipment i use i (Mac, Xbox, Skygo etc)

    Does this seem reasonable?

    Thank you

Very poor, with a line attenuation of 36db, you should be seeing a sync speed of around. 10 to 12Mbps.

The router is doing the best it can, so a little work is needed.

First off have a listen to your telephone line with an old fashioned wired phone, any pops bangs whistles etc?
    If so that needs sorting.
Is your router plugged into your master socket, if not do so and redo stats.
If no improvement, unscrew the faceplate from the master socket and plug into the test port, redo stats and report back.

Thanks for reply. I currently dont have a phone plugged in. Just my router.

My cable from the wall to the router is quite long and tucked under the carpet in my flat. Would that be the cause of anything?

I have tried my router in a different socket before yes. I can try unscrewing the faceplate to see of course.

    Thanks

If the extension includes the bell wire then yes it will cause problems.
If you can try using a short cable to the master socket.

    Ring / Bell wire stuff.
