Oh god the food THE FOOD!!!!

Today was hummus on toast for brekkie, homemade carrot and lentil soup for dins and then massive tea...marinated tuna steak (god bless Aldini tuna steaks) which was a bit too spicy but oh well with a potato and pepper casserole thing with, of course, sselllerrriiaccckk. Only got half a celeriac to go now...I seem to remember at some point last year buying loads and loads and loads and loads of kale and never getting to the bottom of the bag and the year before buying a huge pumpkin, the type that used to make it onto the final segment of 'That's Life' years ago, remember that??????

Right, listen, to the clearly insane Divas on here.....you need to embrace the peppers. And the peas. Honest. Ignore my frankly bizarre overconsumption of random veg described above, I promise you it's the truth. Peas. Are. Your. Friend. OK???

Courgettes, however, need to be destroyed and come the revolution I will take them out.
(shame that, used to quite like a courgette, have quite violently gone off them this year).

Loving our love of food, especially the comforting soups and stews. Magsnoodle with your bubble and squeak!! Thats fab!
I'm honestly eating a lot better since I entered into Frugal '14. The biggest change for me has been taking my own lunches into work and uni. Nothing major, just homemade soups and sandwiches and pasta salads etc. This has naturally spilled over into re-discovering a love of cooking. Food tastes so much nicer and I'm saving a fortune on shopping so yay!!

mothernerd - a belated thank you for the tunes you posted!! Good choices from you, as always. Thank you!!

magsnoodle - uni going really well, ta!! Got a few maga busy weeks but should be done for this year by the end of May. How are you getting on?? Such a mad time of year. Hope you're getting through it!

Buffster - don't even. Package arrived for me only today from Imazom. Book I forgot I'd ordered. There goes my attractive smugness!!!

  • I knew there was a reason I don't have an amazon account or an ebay account. I am quite proficient at accidental shopping as it is. Am with you on the courgettes. Horrible creatures

My late grandparents used to grow courgettes. I always thought I liked them until recently when I cooked them for Little Miss and myself. I realised then that unless they are smothered in garlic and herbs, and fried, I don't actually like them.

I like peppers, just not the green ones. Too bitter.

I need to make soup, not done it for ages.

    Hiya,

Glad uni is going well. This term is going to be good I think - lecturers are interesting and knowledgeable and good at lecturing. Woo hoo!!! Think the assignments might be tricky but then I always think that.

We always have soups for lunch this time of the year - home cooked naturally and we usually have cooked some extra chilli or north african squash stew or bolognese which I heat in the microwave with a sweet potato before I have my evening class. No money spent. Must admit though I have been shattered this week and it is SO tempting to buy chocolate or crisps but so far have resisted. Plan is to put the couple of quid not spent into the sealed pot....

Did buy a book for uni off Amazon - 1p with £2.80 postage. It was used but good enough for studying from - my bargain buy for this month. I had a £10 voucher from uni for completing a survey about the course which I thought was the best 20 minutes spent.....

Take care and have a good rest of the week.

    xxx

  • By the time I was 30 I had 3 credit cards and two overdrafts and I was frightened. At 34 I finally had a job that paid enough money to start chipping away at this debt and by 37 I had done it - no credit cards, no overdraft. HURRAY!!!!!!

I just found your diary and I can relate to it so much. At the moment I'm still in the "frightened" stage of my debt free journey but I'm paying it off steadily. I love that you quit your job and no longer have that "sunday night feeling". You just can't put a price on being happy. I look forward to the day that I don't need my current level of wages to pay off my debts and can make positive changes to my work life too, even if it means taking a pay cut.

Good luck with building up the savings :)

  • Hi Divas xxxxxxxxxxx

Been a tough few days - leading up to today - 25th anniversary of Hillsborough.
Seem to be a lot angrier this year - but that's good as we've all been desolate for the last two and a half decades.
    Hope everyone's doing OK.
One more step closer to deserved justice. And hopefully some peace.
