Crack of dawn to ya, Divas!! xxxxxxxx
Well we've all understandably been awake since stupid o clock and haven't really slept much to be fair - but the bottom line/main thing is we all managed to drop off and catch some zzzzz'z which I think is really important.
My sis and brother in law were round last night for hours and brought a much needed takeaway. My brother who lives down south is coming up Weds eve to see how we're doing and just be with us and will drive mum and dad to my auntie's funeral as my dad now has no car, so that's a worry off their minds too.
We've just called my other brother who lives abroad with his family - they only moved just before Xmas last year and we're only really starting to get adjusted to that. So him and my sis in law are understandably gutted. But he was lovely on the phone, offering reassuring words to my mum and dad.
All the neighbours have been over bringing wine and flowers! My own friends have been amazing and are coming over later today.
People on the MSE forum have been amazing - supportive and offering practical help too.
So here's the choice: do we concentrate on the actions of one or two individuals who were in our house last night?
Or the countless people who will be in our house this week (flesh and blood and cyber-ly) who are just amazing?
Ah its a no-brainer surely!
Think I'm going to have another sleep. But even non-LFC fans will appreciate this in the circumstances, surely?!

Last one!
There's probably LOADS of people here who hate football - I must admit I'm pretty disillusioned too these days!! However, when I used to go the match (pre-Hillsborough) the pre-match rendition of You'll Never Walk Alone used to bring me to tears. You could really feel the power of 1000's of people united in song.
Have a look - even non football fans will hopefully get what I mean here. Try from 4mins onwards http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5iLL57puZPM2014 Frugal Living Challenge

Sweetie it happened to me twice and someone also broke in once but was frightened off by my daughter being in the house. To use my daughter's favourite criticism, there are scumbags everywhere. One time it was 2 days pre Christmas and the only things that got me thru were the kids and the generosity of others though there were a few total melt down moments. You do get through it cos otherwise the scumbags have stolen so much more than your belongings. Just don't keep the feelings bottled up. Come here and rant as much as you need to. Oh Skinty. Massive hugs to you all. That is horrible. I am very lucky in that my home has never been broken into but my car has, and then the same car was stolen a couple of months later. I know how horrible and heartbreaking those two things were. Never had to fear for my life on those occasions though.
Don't allow the scumbags (good one INOD) to drag you down. Look at how wonderful your family, friends and neighbours are, all pulling together to help and support. Once you start feeling a bit better the scum shouldn't get any more of your headspace.
The first good thing in ages, your dad's case being thrown out. That is the beginning of good times again, I feel it. Chin up chick, it has to get better now. xxMortgage at 12/07/2022 = £175,000

Hello,
I'm a longtime lurker of your diary, but want to extend my sympathies at your burglary. It's a horrendous feeling when it happens.
The same thing happened to me a few weeks ago and the Police told me that houses with alarms are far less likely to be touched. So, I installed one that week and really happy I did. It gives you a much stronger peace of mind that the creaks you hear in the night aren't intruders and your house is likely to be in the same state you left it when you get back. Mine has door contacts and motion sensors all around and didn't cost the earth. It's really worth thinking about, as even for peace of mind it's been well worth the money.
The good that comes out of such a horrendous situation is realising how many good things you have in life. Your life is far richer than "theirs" could ever possibly be. The bright side is being shown how loved and supported you are.0 -
Lots of hugs.
Yes it's horrible when it happens but keep looking at the good bits.
It's nearly ten years since it happened to us (the month after my father died). I had to explain that I might have left a window open but the man that came to fit window locks and door catches afterwards said it wouldn't have made a difference and the insurance still paid up.
I had heard them but thought it was one of the cats knocking over a pile of cds,so went back to sleep. They had come upstairs (taken my coat and bag from the bottom of the bed) but luckily my youngest had been out carol singing with his friend and after changing his money for him, I had tucked my purse (with all my cards in) underneath the pillow so they didn't get that. Feels so good to have 'cheated' them out of their ill-gotten gains.
I came down in the morning to feed the cats and started to shout at whoever had left the back door wide open, then got annoyed as a coat was on the floor -thought it was DS1's (newly bought for the funeral) but it was mine - they had taken the keys from my pocket and dropped the coat. Then we started to notice things that were missing -had to send DS1 to the police station as they had unplugged the phone and taken that.
They stole my mother's Christmas present. My brother was visiting for the weekend and I had wrapped it for him to put in the car as it was too large to carry. They must have thought it was a table football from the size of the box -I still get a laugh imagining their faces when they unwrapped a garden bench.
The police were excellent, very supportive. DS1 had helped out when a gang of teenage tearaways were attacking the owner of a local takeaway and his father - threatening to say he had touched one of the girls with them if he didn't give them all free drinks and money. DS1 waded in, throwing them out of the shop, being careful with the under 18s (he had just turned 18 and the law on adults/minors is tricky). One of the hoodlums phoned his dad. DS1 didn't bother being careful with him. Some of them followed him home, making racist taunts and some of them were people who were bullying DS3 so we had had a lot of strange /abusive phone calls.
When the police came about the burglary they decided that it might be a race hate crime (think someone had been on a course). But they were very helpful and investigated the phone calls (I had some of the phone numbers written down -racists/bullies are too stupid to block their phone number before making nasty phone calls) as well. We are a combination of Irish/Scottish ancestry by the way but DS1 has black curly hair. Someone's dad actually came round to moan at me for sending the police round to his house.Tough.
Anyway more hugs, look after yourselves, accept the generosity of those around you. And the songs made me cry. Both times.Which is good -got a few things I need to get out of my system.
I've taken up idleness by the way. Thrown up, bad back, bad leg. Doctor gave me painkillers and told me to rest. Been confined to bed since 3pm yesterday and I could get used to this.My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0
