Money and Me - A Love/Hate Story

Hugs to you Skinty. Life is indeed precious and shouldn't be wasted or taken for granted.
mothernerd - re: friends, I have a very small group of close friends (ok, 2 if you don't count Hubby) and a slightly wider circle of friends (ok, 3, again if you don't count Hubby, but that's slightly wider than 2) then a wide circle of Facebook "friends" and work colleague "friends". I've had friends who have relied on me in times of crisis for them but when my dad was diagnosed with cancer back in September, none of them were there for me. Just those 5 (and Hubby of course) I wonder if as you get older (I'm now 40) you focus more on the quality of friends rather than the quantity?
As for the tidying up for guests - I have 5 cats (only 3 at home at the moment though) unless you give me just 5 minutes notice of your visit to run the vac round, the house would be a mess by the time you got there anyway:rotfl:0 -
Evening all xxx
Thanks so much, you lovely gals....your fab support really has meant a lot these last couple of days!! Really do appreciate it. Feeling lots better today, but still with a healthy dose of perspective.RainbowBridgeReturns wrote: »Big hugs from me too Skinty, 'Slinky to be', we seem to have been living parallel lives recently. We have just cremated my dear uncle and I am picking up the ashes today. (That doesn't read right, but hey ho!), and all my generation were the ones sitting on the front row at the crem, which is not the safest place to be ......
We have had police all over the estate for the last couple of days, because of a double murder-suicide incident, involving neighbours who had been living quietly here for over 20 years, and ostensibly happily married for 30 years. It is all very unsettling .....
Mothernerd is right, it is time to take this band on the road, where are we heading off to first? Can we have one of those humongous tour buses?
Sorry to hear about this, Rainbowb. God forbid any of us ever have a single quiet day, eh?!! Am desperate for one!! Hope it's a bit quieter round yours now? Also - you have it in a nutshell re: the front row of the crem not being the best place to be! Can't tell you how much that resonates! Ah sod it - lets all pile into our MAHUSSIVE tour bus. Can it please be like the one in the Spice Girls film except 10 times better?catshark88 wrote: »Discovered this diary last night and rad it right through. May I subscribe? You all sound fab.
Skinty, I'm sorry for your loss. Always so horrid.
I am having horrible flashbacks of blue mascara. And eyeshadow that was 2 different colours next to each other on each lid. Shudders...
What Everywoman Wants was "What she wants" down south I think. I well remember the ra ra skirts. These days I think I. Dressed up if I have clean jeans on, lol!
Hiya catshark, love your name!!! Welcome to the Frizztastic gang, can only advise you just give into your flashbacks and go with them. You are amongst blue mazzy survivors here, who have finally embraced our pasts!girlatplay wrote: »Sorry you are having a sad time at the moment Skinty. I am a naturally incredibly nosey person. Just for the record though, I only had your best interests at heart when I asked as I do believe everyone needs to have goals. Even if you don't want to share them, that is fine. Just think about them privately.
Thanks soooooo much for all your help. And my virtual surprise! They are my fave flowers :T
And honestly, I am really appreciating you asking about my goals - it was exactly what I wanted to hear so thanks hun. I'm going to answer properly on Friday as I'm not long in from work now and tomorrow I'm in uni all day then going straight to work so I'll be half dead when I get in. Want to answer this honestly and not knackered-ly. So, Friday!
hismissus - yes yes completely agree with quality over quantity re: friendships!! I reckon I have 4 friends I can absolutely count on and a further 2 I can sort of count on. I've also noticed others drifting away when I've gone through rough times. Good riddance!
mothernerd - thanks for your reply and for letting us into your life a little too. You sound very grounded and seem to know what to expect next re: your relationships and roles within your family. Hmmmmmmmmm though...one subject reared it's head....brings me on to.....2014 Frugal Living Challenge

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
I don't know.
Whaddyafink, gang?
So, I'm 38 and although since I've been 14 I've been asked 'have you got a fella?' cos oh my word, a gal can't possibly be the complete picture without one can she? (me? sarcastic?)
I've noticed this question tons more since I was 30.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
So what's going on with me? Well, feast or famine, that's what! I go through long periods of being single - years - and just always have. This is possibly the longest time, actually - I've been single (give or take the odd fling!!) for around six years now. During that time I've been chocka with my job and honestly couldn't fathom how to fit a relationship into my life. So I just didn't seek one out. I honestly couldn't find the time or inclination to be bothered.
When I mentioned this to people (usually those in couples), they reacted as though I'd just set fire to their kids' Christmas presents.

EXCUSE ME, DID SOMEONE ORDER THE 18TH CENTURY?
Dear me!! I've never been able to fathom these responses, it baffles me that my single status seems to actually irritate people. Why is this? Can anyone relate???
Now though....for the record....as I'm slo-o-o-o-w-ly starting to gain a bit of balance everywhere in my life (apart from my bank balance!! wahey! Skinty cracked a funny!!)...I'm kinda thinking....would be nice to have a froybend...maybe?
So...I dunno. Help us out here!!! Is anyone dating at the mo?? Anyone in a loving relationship they fancy talking about? Anyone happily single and planning on staying that way for a bit?
Think this is my theme song at the mo, the lyrics absolutely sum me up!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKrBfb4bUWY2014 Frugal Living Challenge

Absolutely! Let's go! Full European or world wide tour, sounds like we all need the break. Can we start somewhere sunny? Australia?;)girlatplay wrote: »Sorry you are having a sad time at the moment Skinty. I have linked a virtual surprise for you at the bottom of this post.
Very clever, nice gesture!
Heh heh! It's quite clever, isn't it? To multi quote: as you are reading through the posts (or after you have read them, your choice, any will do) click on the small image that is the pink and orange speech bubbles. When you have clicked it a white tick appears on it. Keep doing that with each message you want to quote until you get to the last message that you want to quote. Just click on "quote" on that one. It's like the finish.
Once you have done that it automatically puts you into an advanced message with all the quotes on the page. It can be a little fiddly when you are deleting bits of messages but it is worth it for the seamlessnessJust one thing to be aware of, when you are deleting bits make sure that you have the [ and ] signs in both at the start and the end of the quote or it won't work. e.g.
skintygerlinky wrote: »This doesn't work as I have missed out the [ off the last part: /QUOTE] You will see when you go to do it.
Another trick I like very much which you might like for your music vids is this: VIRTUAL SURPRISE Sorry I left the price on it
Hope that helpsxx

Hello
Sorry, a lurker just stopping by. I thought your post was really interesting. I've mostly been single throughout my adult life. I have a mental health problem and for years I've told myself that no-one would be able to deal with it. I'm doing a little better now, so I'm starting to wonder if perhaps somebody might.
I honestly don't get asked about boyfriends etc - not sure what that says about me?? I've never felt that I 'needed' a bf, but I'm starting to think I might like one. It'd be really nice if I could feel that someone 'had my back', you know? I've got their back, they've got mine - we're a team. I'm fortunate enough to have a house with some equity in it, but working in a fairly rapidly changing industry, going through more rounds of redundancies than I care to remember in the last few years, it would have been easier with a supportive partner by my side.
GxThough no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending0 -
Hi Skinty
Just found you, read through, subscribed :T
Similar-ish situation here... not living with parents but £5K debt to go, though it came from uni fees and I don't regret it despite getting detoured to do something completely different! I may go back to Plan A one day when I can afford to cut my hours - so good to hear from someone who's in that situation now and enjoying it.
My big hair is best represented a decade earlier by Robert Plant - if my mother wasn't so totally uninterested in music I would wonder if that's where it came from :rotfl:
Friends are fab - most of mine are pretty skint too, and yesterday one came over so we could basically nag each other into doing something about getting stuff on Ebay. It ended up we talked about a bunch of other skintness related stuff and now I'm seriously considering having a Monthly Moneysaving Night where we can get a deal on food and then either swap info or sit each other down to get on with something. It's likely to be the same crowd I swop voucher deals with anyway :rotfl:
Rosa xx
