    No, you don't.

Yes, they do check, but the eligibility requirements are far wider than being in receipt of DLA. This is a summary:

    [/LIST]
You do have to sign the card. You could presumably be asked to give another signature if fraud was suspected.

A lot of disabilities are not visible as you know. So a signature isn't enough IMO because a direct challenge of whether someone was actually disabled could be very wrong. Checking they are the person eligible on the card is different, which can only really be done easily by a photo.

I'm surprised the train companies are not more concerned about it because it means every time it is abused they are loosing money.

OP glad you and your friend made it to London and back hope you had a good time ?

Please do not assume that other disabled people abuse the benefits they might get.

For those with families you can get a Family Railcard at the moment with £10 off, again no photographs and you can share between two different families

I was once challengeed by a bus driver over my bus pass. He claimed I stole it and that there was nothing wrong with me. Yes, because of course, you can just tell by looking at someone how much vision they have. *rolls eyes*

I don't think a special offer for families is really a sensible comparison.

It isn't quite the same as getting 30% of two fares and having to go through a set eligibility criteria to get the pass.

At the end of the day it's up to the train companies how they police it, I guess, it's their businesses I was just surprised that they were not a little more vigilant.

Thankfully I'm sure the vast majority of disabled people do not abuse it, but then it's always the minority who spoil it for the rest.

Oh so sorry I wasn't actually comparing any railcard just pointing to our readers with families that the offer is on at the moment certainly worth it for 2 adults and up to 4 children traveling together. ;)

Your choice to believe it or not, I don't care.

And since when has it been acceptable on this site to ridicule a disabled person?

I sm disabled, so I reclaim the right lol

And the fundamental difference between you and me is that:

    1) I am actually disabled

    2) I am not a fantasist or a troll (both of which it's ok to ridicule) :rotfl:

Now, as virtually everyone has sussed what you are, and don't believe a word of whatever you say, I wonder why you waste your time?

Haven't you got a proper life?

  • Although I'm pleased to have been able to secure more help for DH, both financial and practical, I still worry about the thousands of folk in his position, who don't have anyone to fight their corner, or are willing, but just don't know how to go about it.

Andy can post under whatever guise he chooses, that he's claiming thousands a month, that Flo is so disabled they've spent £125K on improvements for their humble abode, or they've got so much spare dosh that there's nothing she likes better than going on a shopping trip and buying designer handbags. This, and stories which are the complete opposite, depend on his AE.

But my worry is that anxious and vulnerable people, who may have tried to pluck up the courage to post and ask questions, will be deterred when they read the fairy stories, the bragging, the pompous, but totally inaccurate answers - and they won't post.

I can't understand it, but for the sake of those people, who desperately need help, I wish he'd stop, and just think about the harm he's doing.

But I won't hold my breath.

I know that these people go into Discussion Time, pretending to be getting mega-bucks from the taxpayer, and making it clear how 'easy' it all is.....:rotfl:.....to exaggerate a disability, but I do wish they would stay away from the actual advice threads.

As you say, people, often new to the system, come on to try and get help, and then they often end up more confused than when they started.

But, I suppose the AE's and trolls get something from doing all this, but God knows what.....

Sandra a very heartfelt post. x

For what it's worth, I am taking the stance of ignoring but pointing out factual errors that may affect the OP where applicable. This way the OP thread is less likely to be disrupted.

I worry so much about vulnerable people who have nowhere and nobody to turn to, then read one of Andy's posts, and turn off their computer.
