Nursery Concerns.....what to do for the best?

A lad of two plus looks enormous next to a six month baby girl!!
Whilst I am sure the OPs little boy is very gentle and sensitive, physically he will be just too big to safely play in a baby room.
Sounds quite unprofessional to me, I would be keeping a close eye on the situation or looking for an alternative.
I agree as I expect OPs son is a typical two year old with lots of energy who will when bored with younger children probably take to creating his own fun by climbing and running around the room (or like another poster's child di throw a few items), when the practitioners are busy feeding babies etc. It only takes a couple of parents collecting their babies to see this and express concerns that he is too big for the room for him to be moved up.0 -
Hi,
I had this recently with my 2 year old. She was the eldest on her room but like the op child she can communicate quite well. They weren't planning on moving her up at Christmas as they are full further up on the nursery. I went in & spoke to the owners & explained my concerns.
With some swapping of days etc I managed to get her moved up & the change is incredible. Within a week she was wanting to sit on potty & so much more chatty, I didn't think this was possible lol.
Talk to the mangers & express concerns & see what can be done. It may be possible with some compromise.0 -
You absolute have to sort this out with the nursery. Your son needs to be around people his age and this doesn't always mean kids at the same progression as him but having someone of 2+ in a room full of under 1's isn't acceptable. He needs to be interacting with the older kids and activities for a 2 year old are not the same as a 1 year old. My son has just turned 2 and moved up to the next room so I see the differences in him from a year ago.
Our nursery has a age room and a 3-5. Why can't they accommodate your son? It sounds like a ratio issue where they don't want to put in an extra member of staff for one more child. I'd ask more about the why's and also if it is the ratio - does it affect every day your son is there - could they compromise and take him some days? Could your son go to 3-5 room until they make room for him in the summer (if this would be suitable for him and his needs).
Can they rotate the child who's in the smaller room every day so it's not just your son being held back making that child a designated helper for the baby room. We often see the 3-5 kids coming down into the baby room to "help" at our nursery. Especially later in the day where lots of kids have gone home.....
Edited to add - Just read your last update about the split intiitally - sounds like it was a staff issue - glad you have a compromise at least for now......TTC #3..........0 -
Is the room split thing really going to work, sounds to me like you were fobbed off by the manager.
Will wait for an update in 2 to 3 weeks time to see how much time your child ACTUALLY spent in each room...............Breast Cancer Now 100 miles October 2022 100 / 100miles

When my LO started at nursery after his fabulous childminder could no longer have him, he was 20 months. They put him into the 2-3 years room straightaway saying that there was no point in him settling in and then disrupting him again in 4 months. He was always a bit advanced but being with older children has meant he has come on in leaps and bounds. To the extent, when we mentioned him having his birthday, the manager looked worried and said 'Oh we haven't planned for him to move up'. I had to remind her he didn't need to move up - his birthday had finally made him the right age for his room! She had forgotten his age as he behaves much older. I think the right stimulation at this age is crucial and you should keep a beady eye on how much time he actually spends in the other room.Mortgage (original/ current):193,000 (23/09/11)/ £102,500 (07/11/2019)
