And Baby Makes Three....

Morning all (and a belated happy new year)
Mortgage is currently £93,000 - never got to make an OP in December.
OH has had 12 week scan, all good for Baby Makes Four (eek!)
Currently have savings of £12k - this will be eaten in to once OH goes on maternity leave, as she earns a lot more than me.
Savings are a quandary. Nationwide have written to say the initial 5% rate finishes in March, and Santander have increased their fees. So unsure where to put the money, so its not tied in, but working as hard as it can be.
I work for a large (but troubled) supermarket that is doing 3% up to £3k - any one got any further ideas?
(Personally, I'd love to use some for the mortgage, but I think that ship has sailed!)

Good afternoon all
Well, here I am a mere 6 pay days away from becoming Daddy FLC for a 2nd time.
New fitted wardrobes are currently being installed, increasing storage space is a must at the moment!!
Mortgage is a few £ under £93k, and we have £10k in savings for Mrs FLC to go on to maternity pay.
I bought a new phone, not as expensive as I thought, I had dropped down from my £28 contract to a £10 staff sim only, and banked the difference, received some gift cards and used my staff discount - so the end result was a much better (but bigger!) phone and I'm still on the £10 sim deal. Just cannot get used to having such a big screen!
Other than that, its just trying to stem the panic of becoming a father again, and where the money will come from.

Hi all
Quick update: Nothing much happening.
5 months until new FLC arrives and £92k mortgage.
Hoping to make a £1k OP in the next weeks, however also torn yo keep it for when Mrs FLC is off work.
So hard, unsure where to go.
Can't find any more cutbacks to make.
15 years exactly until I'm mortgage free.
On a side issue; concerned about re mortgaging while OH is on maternity leave. Had awful time doing it when she was off last time, as its a massive chunk of our wages; and bank statements will show we cannot afford our repayments; even though we have savings to cover the shortfall.Mortgage: 01/02/14 - £108k

Hi all
I'm still plodding along, no great leaps on the mortgage front, but I am making the savings (future wages when OH on maternity leave) work harder.
Just a quick question.
Does anyone make their OP via their credit card? I was thinking about trying this, as we have a Tesco CC and get clubcard points on all the spends.
I wasn't sure if there would be a charge incurred though - who would I ask? Who adds the charge? Mortgage provider or CC provider?
Many thanks!Mortgage: 01/02/14 - £108k

Well here we are again.
I'm trying to remain positive.
£92k left of mortgage to go.
179 payments which would make 56.
Really want to shave 6 years off this.
Its tough keeping positive with a 2yr old and in 14 weeks another criminal mouth to feed.
How does everyone remain on track and focussed?

It's nice to hear from you FLC
and that you are still OPing. Have you remortgaged yet?

We totally didn'tmy aim during second mat leave was not to get into debt, and a good day was one where the family was clothed and fed. (And no one was crying when DH got home)
Things get a lot easier when the monsters get free nursery hours/schoolCurrently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck

Hi SmlSave
Time is precious, and a small commodity these days.
Cannot remortgage till March next year - Mrs FLC is now on mat leave prior to our new bundle of joy arriving.
We have £12k in savings to see us through until Mrs FLC goes back to work. We are very very lucky to have family who look after little FLC so we do not need to pay for any childcare.
So far so good. OP £50 per month, that is no where near where we need to be to make it to 50 and MF. But every step, I suppose, is a step closer.
Really really hoping we can get a new mortgage at a super low rate, and continue at our current £700 payments.

Hi FLC, I've read your diary but never got on with contributing! Congrats on FLCbaby2
I'd concur with SmlSave, when my second arrived my aim was just to keep going financially, not try to get ahead. Sometimes we just have to coast life & have faith it will get better in future. The main thing is you're focused on making the best from your money, the attitude is more than half the battle. You'll get there, & in the event probably sooner than you think.
Congrats again xLife is changing...but I'm still Money Saving!0 -
Hi FLC
best of luck with FLC2 in a few weeks.
Keep going, it's easy to be demotivated as it all seems so slow. You are in a great position and moving along nicely. Keep your eye on the horizon
