Hope scan goes well. It might not be an ideal time to tell you with baby 2 on the way but Santander have launched a 5% regular saver. You can put in up to £200 a month and all you need is a current account with them.

  • Cheers Bexster.
Currently have £2k with TSB and rest in 123 account. Keep meaning to open a lloyds account too.
Want the cash wotking as hard as we can for us.
Would it benefit us to open the regular saver?

    Hi Idee
Welcome to the journey! All the very best to u.
Its a long and rewarding journey, which i struggle to stay focussed on.

I find that too. Every month it seems there's something else that 'needs' the money. But our future selves will thank us! :T

    Hi FLC

At 5% rather than the 123 acct 3% it would benefit you to the tune of £2400 a year you could put in there. It was easy peasy to set up, but you have to do it by phone.

FLC here's a link (here) to a great thread on the savings board where people explain how best to use current accounts for cb. If you only have the one S123 then you could probably do better elsewhere. I'm switching to N@twest's reward a/c for £3 a month fee but flat rate 3% cb on all the bills that S123 does cashback on a tiered rate on, and moved the savings between various other accounts mostly 4/5/6% with a little of 3% but all no charges.

Another week, another go at loading my catapult and firing some overpayments at the mortgage. Only trouble is that I'm using marshmallows when I really want to be using boulders. :rotfl: This morning as I have my tea, I've just made a £2 overpayment.

Hoping everyone has a good week and gets to use their catapults at some point.

  • Hi Idee
I like your style. My current provider needs me to phone up and OP. This reason and only being able to viee my balanace between 7am and 5pm are the main reasons I will be switching provider.
    Hope you are well.

  • Hi all
I am not good at maths; never have been, never will be.
How do I work out if I will be better off remortgaging now? There is a charge of £3300 to cancel this deal and a charge of nearly £2k for my new provider. I really REALLY don't want to increase my mortgage again. However, the MSE page is saying the great rates won't stay low forever.
I am tied in til March 17, by the way.
Other than that; still the same. Now got £13,000 in savings and itching to OP £1000; but hesitating if we need the money for the new to arrive criminal.
    Hope you are all well.
Any advice would be received with open arms, as I am awful at decision making (as well as maths!)

  • Hi all
Just a quick update. Found the ditch your fix calculator on MSE, and it doesn't pay me to ditch.
Oh well, roll on March 2017!
Just hope we can remortgage while OH on SMP.

I'm pants at maths to. Just a suggestion but you could keep £1,000 to the side, and if you don't need it within say a month of baby being born, then load it on your catapult and fire it at the mortgage. :D
