Not sure if it will meet all your needs, but I installed Opera Mini on my phone. It makes surfing the net on my phone far quicker and a much easier experience in general.Hark at you going all strict

Is it like that broswer you can get for your PC (I forget the name, not IE or Netscape) ? The real smooth one.
Is it freeware? Does it allow popup windows when surfing the net from your N95?0 -

I believe they do a full blown web browser. I installed it after reading another thread on here about slow loading of this website on their K800i. I dont regret it at all.
Here is a link to the operamini site, and yes it is free
http://www.operamini.com/
I dont think it allows pop up windows (pretty sure it doesnt)Hark at you going all strict

I can't seem to download Opera Mini.
When I try, from the N95, it comes up with a grey blank screen and no option to save the file anywhere?0 -
download Opera mini to pc and transfer via Nokia PC suite, dunno if opera supports this installation though ?
if the ringtone is in a format the N95 does not support thats why it wont download, you can edit mp3's on your pc then transfer to N95 via the " transfer music " application on Nokia PC suite which can also compress the file to a nokia format that takes up minimal space in your N95 - its dead easy to do ! - well I mastered it !! LOL
What network is your N95 locked to ? maybe issues with your network blocking stuff on thier firmware (..firmware - its like Windows for a N95, ie... o2 would run Win 98, Orange Win ME, 3 Win XP, etc etc... each network has its own specfic version )
My N95 is generic - as Nokia intended, no interference from the networks own
" version " & runs on the best firmware - the OFFICAL Nokia one ! others with NETWORK firmware do have problems thoughSO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe

Great, I assume Nokia PC Suite comes in the N95 box? The cables and software are all included? Does anyone else know if Nokia supports this installation method (for installing Opera Mini)?
The ringtone type was 'true tones' - which I think are just mp3s - so the N95 should support these as a direct download onto the phone.
My N95 8 gig was originally locked to Vodafone however this was unlocked prior to recieving it (a company purchased it for me) and I've been using my Tmobile sim since. The phone still displays Vodafone's branding when it's powered up and some Vodafone menus can still be seen within the phone.
I'd love to get Skype installed too. I hear Fring is a better alternative for a VOIP program on your mobile. Anyone had experience using VOIP from their N95?
What is the name of the offical generic Nokia firmware?0 -
I've used Fring from my E61 - excellent, as it supports multiple VoIP clients.
Yes, Nokia support install via PC. You can download from http://www.operamini.com/download/pc/nokia/te audire non possum. musa sapientum fixa est in aure.0 -
sounds like Voda have barred downloading ringtones - unless you buy via vodafone live no doubt !
NSS can change your firmware via a product code change then you can get the generic Nokia one
fring voip suffers from congestion at thier servers even on my 3.5g signal - each fring user can run 5+ messengers & a voip number from the application now multiply that by even 10000 users worldwide & the fact fring actually makes no money for the company and you will suffer problems as no money can be invested in servers/bandwith
Fring is one of these companies set up to provide a gap in the market, makes no money & awaits a buy out from a large corporation
remove the Voda branding and use the nokia SIP voip, my call quality is much improved with the Nokia client on my incoming 0800 freephone number, Skype via 3 and Skypeout via the many other programs available for N95 download, yes you have more applications on your phone but a single program that converges everything does not always provide best solution just like a Orange mobile & broadband - converged - YES, good quality - NOSO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe

I've just installed Fring on my mobile. It's a free app that lists contacts from your gtalk, MSN and skype accounts and you can recieve/ring them.
It obviously uses your data connection on your phone and charges between networks vary. On T-Mobile it's £7.50 a month for Web n Walk.
Just had a 20 min chat with a friend using Fring/MSN on my N95 and the quality was excellent.
The possibilities are endless... people phoning you anywhere in the world on your mobile for nothing/peanuts.
Anyone else had any good experiences to share on this subject?0 -
be warned though, that on the £7.50 a month web and walk tariff, it does state in the T's & C's that Voip use isn't allowed, as isn't instant messaging..
to use voip, i think you need to be on the web and walk max package (basically the top of the range package!!)0
