Oh I don't know starnac, it was fn but FREEZING and really windy as we were outside  :rotfl: Several instances of music stands blowing over and music flying off :rotfl: Not much in the way of stalls either. Had fun though and the little cafe was lovely - staff had some great festive jumpers :rotfl: and Father Christmas came into the cafe, he was ace
Heating on, kettle on, and I'm planning to try (again!) to get to the end of Harry Potter then I'm going to spend the rest of the day defrosting in a hot bath :rotfl:0 -
Bit of financial buttling done :j Bought the new TV licence and nearly bought the YNAB software (free trial runs out in 7 days) - costs £34 but I found a 10% discount code, which got me investigating if i could get more of a discount - found another code for 25% off taking it to £22 ish, and a note saying there might be a further reduction to 50-75% off :j
Going to keep an eye out and might end up getting it for about £8 :j it's already saved me well more than that so a bargain even if i end up paying full price! :j
And now i really AM watching Harry Potter - taken me about 4 days and I still haven't got to the end yet :rotfl:0 -
You'll be pleased to know that I finally DID get to the end of Harry Potter
:rotfl: And had a lovely evening out at a pal's house :j :j
Nothing much financial to report! Checked bank, nothing's gone in or out, not spent any cash since yesterday morning so nothing to put into budget software etc. Tum te tum.
Off to York today though :j Bit of bimbling round the shops (or elbowing our way round...) and then boss's house for Christmassy drinks :j Wouldn't have bothered with teh shopping but since we're going anyway we might as well!
Must check presents situation - what do I still need??0 -
Sounds like a good Christmas already :j:j:j2023: the year I get to buy a car0
-
Indeed KC, it's certainly been very sociable, lots of christmassy drinks at people's houses and people popping in here too :j
Although I confess we were invited to another party closer to home this evening and said we might pop in when we got back but we've only just got home and i'm afraid we're going to stay here... :$

Why does the pesky phone DO that?! :rotfl:
Anyway...
Was trying to say i'm not sure about tomorrow.... There's still a couple of bits i'd like to get for Mr Cheery so contemplating nipping off on the train to another town for a last look round... And i MUST hop to the post office in the morning.
Other than that, washing and general tidying I think, very jolly :j :j0 -
Ooh, your phone did that? At first, I thought you were writing in code
:j
Enjoy the ... spohs :rotfl:2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
:rotfl:
Took me a while to get thatBUt actually you're right - my pesky phone was actually writing BACKWARDS! idiotic thing. It does that sometimes, if I try to delete something in a long post, it won't let me go back to the end, it keeps typing AFTER the cursor and I can't see it or edit it, and the only way to get out of it without deleting the entire post is to POST it (with gibberish) and start again
:rotfl:
Does make me look quite daft though :rotfl:
So, final shopping haul done (had to fight VERY hard with myself not to buy Mr Cheery a festive jumper, they were everywhere but I really don't think he'd appreciate it! :rotfl: )
Home now and trying to organise the budget...
Harping on about YNAB againbut because I can see everything in categories, I can see that as of today I've actually spent £39.65 over my Christmas budget
:rotfl: And because that's then a negative balance and in RED, and because I don't like seeing things like that in red, I have to poach the money from a different budget to make it all add up again
Of course I did that before with bank accounts etc, but before I was just transferring say £100 at a time out of the general savings account to approximately cover whatever I thought I'd spent at the shops.
The difference is that now I can see that I'm going to have to take £39.65 from (for example) the holiday fund to cover what I've over spent on Christmas...
(Fortunately it won't need to come out of the holiday budget as I've got a category for work expenses which I've now finished spending so it's actually got a small positive balance at the minute, so it can come out of there)
Makes it all more real somehow, knowing I have to pinch a specific amount from somewhere specific... Makes me a lot more careful!
I think there'll inevitably be a bit of swapping around this month with Christmas and family visits etc, and the first month I've been budgeting like this. Hopefully I'll get more of a hang of it in January though.
Still, I've been swapping round between discretionary spending categories so far (Christmas, birthdays, my spends, travel etc) and not actually broken into any savings (holidays, insurance, car maintenance etc) like I would normally have done so that's got to be a good thing! :j :j
However, Mr Cheery is currently in Aldi and will need some kind of food contribution from the joint account :rotfl: Let's hope his bargain hunting is better than mine! :eek:0 -

See now Cheery - I thought that you were making some profound statement in Latin.................... :rotfl: I can now see it is backwards writing....... :rotfl:
GreyingPounds for Panes £7,305/£10,000 - start date Dec 2023
Grocery Spend August 2025 £280.89/£300
Non-food spend August 2025 £15.55/£50
Bulk Fund August 2025 £31.82/£100 -
:rotfl: latin indeed :rotfl: :rotfl: I believe i was trying to write :not sure about...' although I now have no idea what I wasn't sure about... :rotfl:0
