Cheery's buttling diary: tea in one hand, plant pot in the other, running shoes on

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
I'm not sure I'd admit that anywhere else
Having a Smart meter fitted this morning for both the gas and electric. Also quite excited about thatMr Cheery has been clearing a path in the cellar, and the engineer (due between 8 and 1) actually RANG at 8am to say he was setting off and would be here shortly  Going through a spate of cheery reliable traders after a spate of unreliable ones so that's good! :j
Logged in to put the last meter readings online (not entirely sure why, since they'll go automatically in an hour anyway:rotfl: tis early in the morning :rotfl: ) Anyway, discovered we're £599 in credit with the energy company  :rotfl:
Contemplated reclaiming, but they actually pay 3% on credit balances which is far better than the bank, so I might just leave it with them and drastically reduce the direct debit instead :rotfl: £99 at the minute (for both) but clearly that's too much :rotfl:
Right - need to pop and get some milk or cheery engineer won't be getting a cup of tea and that won't do at all!0 -
Happy new meter cheery me love xTotal debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.
Total debt as of 28/4/19 £7867.38:eek:
minus 112.06 = £7755.32:money:
:money:Sleeves up folks.:money:0 -
Thanks
Although cheery guy has just told me it might not actually work as a 'smart' meter anyway - even though I checked the mobile signal in the cellar... Ah well.
Something wrong with the energy company website and it won't let me alter the direct debit. Obviously it doesn't need doing RIGHT NOW, but, well, you know, once I get a bee in my bonnet...:rotfl:
Just counted out all my small change and £2 coins to pay into the bank insteadSo that's £21 into the no quibble account :j :j Last year we ran off to stay in the Grand Hotel in Scarborough for a night just before Christmas - considering doing the same if we can get a cheap room as we really enjoyed it
Just one night but it felt like a LOT longer, and it encouraged me to finish off all Christmas presenty stuff before we went so the last few days were nicely relaxed :j Rooms currently showing at £190 though so we'll wait for a last minute deal
Ooh - bloke just brought old electric meter up the stairsResisting the urge to ask if I can keep it (like I did with the central heating lever
) - it's quite big :rotfl:

YOU DONT NEED IT CHEERY!!! :rotfl: STEP AWAY FROM THE METER!!!
Yay to new meter  to being £599 in credit. I can't imagine ever having a credit balance like that with a utility company!
Glad engineer was reliable and you weren't kept waiting all day. I hate that! Happy new meter day xGoals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2000 -
Thanks all, but it's rapidly turning into a NOT happy new meter day - apparently we have a slow but significant gas leak  I always knew our gas bill was pretty high compared to other similar houses but assumed that was because the boiler is old and quite inefficient and we're in the house a lot so have the heating on a lot
But nope, turns out we're shedding gas somewhere  I watched the level thing drop myself - looked impressive (in a bad way)
Anyway, meter fitter has had to shut off the gas supply!! So no heating
Darn it :rotfl: Fortunately we have a very nice gas man who we can ring to come and find the leak.
I'll DEFINITELY be reducing the direct debit now :rotfl: Bet we'll be able to save a fortune if we're not paying for gas to be leaked out everywhere
Bloke reckons he can smell it in the kitchenI can't - but am probably just used to that being the smell of the house
I'd assume it was a scam (like the one pulled by BG a few years back  ) but he's from the energy company and they don't actually fit boilers - just charge us for the gas, so it's in their interests to let us use more of it I suppose :rotfl:
Ah well, at least I'm off work today to sort it out...0 -

Just dawned on me that (of course) the cooker is also gas... and (most importantly) the kettle is a camping one - on the gas stove
which means NO TEA   :eek:0 -
Oh no! There's no such thing as a simple job when you talk houses is there? Hope has engineer can sort it quickly for you. I'm actually slightly concerned for your health. Surely living with a gas leak can't be good for you? :eek:Goals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2000

Well I did ask that!! But apparently it wouldn't have actually *harmed* us, it's more the danger of explosion  Although that can't be *that* high if we can't smell it and it might have been there for years...
Rang 3 gas people and the earliest I can get is tomorrow morning... Could keep ringing round, although I'm reluctant to go with someone we don't know or hasn't been recommended by someone we know> our boiler is ancient and if it DOES need replacing I want to believe it's because it NEEDS it, not just because it looks old...
Best go and buy an electric kettlerofl rofl

***apologies for the number of updates of this nature you're going to get today*****
:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Ordinary usage was just 5p per hour - I just plugged in the (ancient, but toasty) electric heater and it's gone up to 34p an hour!! :eek:0
