Ooh, Cheery, you really *have* got into it, haven't you! I'm dreadful at detail, so I didn't follow *all* of it :o but I think keeping it simple, as you say near the end, is probably best - if you have to diarise something for March/April whatever, and not doing it would create a problem with the rate, better to go with the easy option this first time.

Something my sister said to me a long time ago holds water - she got into ISAs and whatnot long before me, and she said they didn't worry about getting the very best rate, as long as it was in the top 5%, say, thats good enough - getting it set up as soon as you reasonably can outweighs the advantage of that extra 0.005% per annum on the money, if you see what I mean.

Triodos are the bank that runs the wind farm company I have shares in :j

I was getting rather lost with the detail myself... :o :rotfl: But thanks for looking anyway, you're the one that inspired all of this!

I reckon you're right - doing *something* is better than doing *nothing* because you're overwhelmed with choices :o I'm off on Friday so will set up an ISA and will discuss with Mr Cheery how much to stick in it for now

That will also mean we have TWO usable instant access savings accounts with the bank (because one has currently got the savings that will go into the ISA). It'll be nice to separate things and have bills/car/house maintenance in one and holidays/no quibble weekends in the other :j :j :j

Gosh, just how exciting is sorting out your finances?! :j :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

So much looking forward to doing next year's budget :D House insurance due in January too and I'm even (shock horror) looking forward to seeing if we can save a few quid on that too :rotfl:

Off up to Newcastle today for a work thing - will be out over both dinner and tea and not managed to sort anything in advance for either :o However, what I will do is buy something *proper* (even if it's just a sandwich) rather than a succession of flapjacks/chocolate bars/cakes like I usually do... :o :rotfl:

    Morning lovely,

glad to see you're hard at work ( as am I of course ) and delighted that you're taking money seriously thes days :T

With regard to keeping a sort of 'emergency' savings, I do keep £1000 in one of my co op accounts - the interest is minimal but as it's more of a buffer I'm not too concerned and I can swish across to my current account if necessary and even have a cashcard for it ... somewhere...

Look forward to reading your progress

Wow! I am bamboozled with all the info!! You really seem to have got into it! I agree that the simplest option might be better than one which could potentially squeeze out a minuscule % if you jump through numerous hoops. Better to be safe than sorry x

:hello: thank you all, you lovely lot! :) Lula :hello: £1000 seems a good amount to keep out - this would be in addition to bills account and there's usually at least £1000 in there too so between them should cover any conceivable emergency that needs cash RIGHT NOW :j

Sorry for bamboozling starnac :o sometimes writing it all down helps me understand and there's always a chance round here that someone will spot something you've missed - as in fact happened at least twice up there :D

Sandwich bought, cake avoided :D now drinking tea in the university library which has a helpful sign informing me that 'these benches are for study, not sleeping' :D shame really, i quite fancy a nap :rotfl:

Good grief! Thats certainly worthy of a post! Banana cake is very yummy ... and anything banana-flavoured will taste good after 3 days of station food. Enjoy :)
