Well of course we are going into yet another weekend with no mortgage :wall: Been given SO many dates now for a 'final' decision - on Wednesday we were told house was now 'acceptable' and we would hear in 'a couple of days' - today I chased and the valuation has bow been approved (isn't that the same as the house being acceptable??) and now it's gone for 'final assessment' (I thought that's what they were doing on Wednesday??) and we will have an offer by Wednesday (what happened to 'absolute latest on Monday'??)
:wall: :wall: :wall: :wall:
Seems I can't do anything at all other than forward brokers emails to estate agent, who is now ringing me every couple of days - do they really think I'd sit here with a mortgage offer and not tell them?!
Right this second I am close to !!!!in pulling out of the whole thing cos I almost can't stand it any moreMaybe people like us aren't meant to live in houses like that after all. Should just !!!!in stay where we are and not have any !!!!in dreams about anythig better.

Cheery, *is* somebody giving you the runaround? Is it time to threaten a complaint to a higher body, or a higher management level? Or to express your disappointment in writing?
Whatever you do, don't let them put you off a living space and style you wanted for yourselves! Don't let them poison your future! You can do this, you honestly can. Just keep going, and be especially kind to each other (you might want to beat up your sofa cushions instead, though) that helps

Thank you lovely ladies :kisses3: KC the broker will certainly be getting a very strongly worded letter - once we have the mortgage offer and everything is signed
If he hadn't recommended an unsuitable product we could have saved weeks and weeks, and I have NOT been impressed with his lack of communication (although the women in the office have been lovely). Daren't complain to the building society in case they change their minds
I suspect the combination of useless broker giving bad advice, and fussy lender having a different person to look at our file every single time is to blame - meant things kept changing when we thought decisions had been made.
Hey ho. I spend an unhealthy amount of time writing my complaint letter to the broker in my head0 -
Well, another day, another minor farce :rotfl:
Flurry of phone calls this morning as I tried to confirm impending mortgage offer was for the right amount of money. After tying themselves in knots and confusing the broker, the lender finally confirmed both purchase and loan price :j :j
In the afternoon, they finally emailed the mortgage offer to the solicitor :j with the wrong purchase price on... :wall: Apparently they'll issue a correct one tomorrow but as usual, I'm not holding my breath :rotfl:
Survey done this morning and I am SO glad I found a surveyor who rings you on the day :j spent 45 mins on the phone discussing his entire report with me :j No real surprises, mostly just what you'd expect (woodworm, few bits of damage to roof), various stupid things (dead mouse, surveyor broke a handle off a window while he was there). As suspected, there's a problem with the joists in a couple of bedroom floors (will try to sort a quote for that tomorrow), oh, and there's an actual WELL in the cellar  :rotfl: we went into the cellar in every single house we saw - except this one cos the estate agent was late and we were dashing to see another house straight after :rotfl: Not necessarily a problem in itself (and very good for storing wine apparently) but will need more ventilation...
Not sure whether to laugh or cry tonight so we're taking one option each :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -

Sadly where there's a dead one, there are probably some live ones too...
Just about to ring round to try and get a couple of quotes for repairing/replacing the joists (quite difficult as we don't actually know what's wrong with them and can't take the boards up to look)
Estate agent emailed AGAIN today getting jittery because we have no mortgage offer. Told them we'd actually had it yesterday but they're having to reissue it. I can see why they're getting fed up - bet they're not as bloody fed up as us though!!
Kind of wishing we'd never bothered trying to move and also trying to pass that off as normal moving jitters
Worst part of all this I think is feeling like I'm causing other people problems, having people ringing and chasing me for stuff I have no control over, not knowing whether I'm doing the right thing...0 -
Well that was helpful - not :rotfl:
Builder 1 said £4-10k, 2-4 weeks, and offered to come out and view it with us 'so I can check the boiler and the electrics for you too'
Builder 2 said 'er....' a lot, then said roughly £3k but there may be easier ways of doing it
Builder 3 said £700 for a couple of days labour plus £100 for materials
:rotfl: :rotfl:
So basically, it will cost something between £1k and£10k, and may take 2 days or an entire month.
Thanks guys :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Oh, and the mortgage offer arrived in the post - the wrong one :wall:0 -
Good grief! I really hope it's sorted soon, Cheery. Your surveyor sounds a good sort, actually. And I confess, I really like the idea of a well in the cellar! I like the idea of a cellar too
I've had two big infestations of rats in my loft while I've been here, and been horrified - but what really stands out to me is that everyone I speak to seems to think it's completely normal .... it's an odd world.
I really hope things get sorted soon.2023: the year I get to buy a car0
