Cheery's buttling diary: tea in one hand, plant pot in the other, running shoes on

Oh, and I've signed up for Uber Frugal July which starts today - quite ridiculous given I'm likely to be spending hundreds of thousands of pounds this month :rotfl: but I'm sure we can be thrifty in other ways! :money:0
-
Cheery, that's wonderful! Congratulations on the mortgage offer - a broker sounds a very good idea when you put it like that.
And yes, there's going to be tidying fit to bust at your house before the photographer shows up - good luck with that.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Thanks KC
I think we're going to need all the luck we can get :rotfl: :rotfl:
So, I have the evening to myself :j time to get things done (me and Mr Cheery do NOT work well together in a confined space...)
So, here's the plan...
* tidy entrance
* bring everything down out of attic that's going to friend's spare room tomorrow (just for photos/viewings, then it can come back)
* take everything into attic that needs to go
That might take me the entire evening :rotfl: :rotfl:
* sand and fill extra holes in skirting on landing stairs
* paint skirting on landing stairs (if it looks dry/flat)
* final coat on woodwork by entrance (actually, that might have to wait til tomorrow as I'll have filled the entrance full of boxes :rotfl: )
* change sheets
* wash bedding (I want the clean new white stuff on when they take the pictures)
* paint round bathroom door (mostly done, but there was a bit of wood missing which we've now added)
* any other bits and pieces of tidying...0 -
Hmm... Well I've got everything ready for friend's house, and I've lugged everything (I think) that's going from the attic into the cellar :j Goodness me there are a lot of stairs in this house  Wishing I lived in a bungalow right now
:rotfl: :rotfl: At least I'm going DOWN them, not up - although I suppose it'll all have to come out of the cellar at some point (hoping there will be removal folks involved in that stage...)
Did sort out YNAB though :j Ooh, and the lovely mortgage broker said there are no arrangement fees for the mortgage he's found - I'd allocated £2000 as that's what had come up on Martin's best buy ones (with a lower rate than ours). That £2000 had its own YNAB category so I've switched it into the stamp duty one, along with the £600 we'll save by not going with the ludicrously expensive estate agent - which means with this month's wages we'll be only £100 short on stamp duty - and as it's Uber Frugal July I'm hoping to be able to put that away too :j :j
That means that (unless anything goes drastically wrong) we'll definitely be able to cover all our moving expenses (including stamp duty) without touching what's in the ISA :j :j That can stay as a safety net (although it's a 30 day access one so I'll want some more easy access savings too...)
Hmm - going to have to do a whole new budget... :j Might wait til they've actually accepted our offer mind you :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
Cheery so much going on. Considering a broker when we redo our mortgage in June too. We used to have a really good one but he moved to the states!
I've signed up for UFJ too  having read her site properly tonight, we already do lots of the food stuff and other things. But some things we definitely don't. Hoping it might just focus the mind if nothing else.0 -
Hi PurpleFairy :hello: most cheery to see you
Good to have some UFJ pals :j :j :j We do plenty of the things too, but especially with all this house business, we've been eating a fair few takeaways and in cafes...Not sure how much we're going to cut that toooo much as our mental health at the minute is dependent on being able to get *out* quite often, and to somewhere we don't have to decorate
but there are plenty of things we could do I;m sure, and it will give me an incentive to getting value for money in the house buying process :j

Wow! Hang on ... you're taking stuff out of the attic and putting other stuff into it? Is that a predictive text error?
The finances sound wonderful, and your use of a broker has obviously paid dividends already, good for you.
I read about UFJ on the website, but as I'm not actually spending anything except on food bills and the odd train fare at the momentit doesn't really apply*. Cheering you on from the sidelines tho.
*ETA - oh wait, I am - my weekly visits from my pest control guy. I consider that non-negotiable
 :cool:Save

Definitely the right way forwards to use a broker if you have a slightly "non-standard" situation Cheery - and in fact I reckon that a lot of other folk can benefit from it too - we used one although again that was due to a no standard situation, definitely made life easier though!
Hope your legs aren't feeling all the climbing of stairs too much today!
I'm getting more and more tempted towards the UFJ idea albeit I'd be a late starter and I'm a bit concerned about this not being a great time of year to do it for me - but then again maybe I could do it for household type things and not personal? That might work? Might just make me focus a bit more again...🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

You can do it for whatever bits you like - I just dif my personal spends and food and fun - no scrimping (or none more than normal) on what we spent doing up the house.
On that front - news! :j :j
Our offer has been accepted on our new fairytale house :j :j :j subject to us selling our own house, of course...
