Cheery's buttling diary: tea in one hand, plant pot in the other, running shoes on

Not spotted any more Bob so fingers crossed! Still got to clear out the other shelves just in case but they're all tins, jam etc and glasses/mugs so not anticipating problems.
No DIY for me tonight. Rarely manage any on Mondays, seems I'm adjusting to having to go back to work :rotfl: Mr Cheery asked very sweetly if I'd go food shopping with him tonight so I did (on the condition that we stuck to the list and it didn't take long :rotfl: ) We did indeed stick to list :j
Went to @ldi and then H0me b@rgains next door for stuff they didn't have but no porridge, and Mr Cheery (price comparer extraordinaire and in charge of food budget) wasn't happy with the cost of teabags so he'll be popping to local shop for those tomorrow.
With those things we'll have spent about £30 this week - we'll likely do a top up on Monday for fresh stuff but I reckon this month we won't have spent much over £120, if that :j
Usually we spend roughly that on the weekly shop but then top up with frozen pizza, stuff for work, breadcakes and assorted treats. This month I've taken home made bread and soup to work every day, with frozen home made biscuits/cakes/muffins for snacks with natural yogurt from a big (cheap) pot. Probably saved about £10 a week doing that - I rarely ate out for lunch but did stop at shop every Monday for flatbreads, cheese, salad fruit, crisps, snack bar things... :eek:
Anyway, wafflingCan't wait to tot everything up at the end of Uber Frugal Jan. I know already my discretionary spnds have been HUGELY lowered - highly embarrassing as I've clearly bern wasting money all over the place :eek:
Anyway, I have been parcelled off to bed with a hot water bottle so Mr Cheery can watch something scary on the tv - an arrangement that suits both of us just fine :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
Evening :hello:
Rotten evening herejust a passing situation (someone being somewhere they probably shouldn't have been) but quite upset me and I got all oversensitive about something else
:rotfl: what a muddle!
Anyway, situation has passed and I am calming downwill need to go to bed soon anyway as on a train at 7.30am tomorrow :eek: bleurgh. But bag is sorted, clothes are ready, shoes polished (!) So should just need to make breakfast and go :j
Had renewal notice for car insurance today - they want £209 which seems quite reasonable for the pair of us, pretty sure it was £250ish last year (after shopping round) and so that's what I saved for this year. Tempted to not even bother with comparison sites (shock horror!) especially after doing the house insurance and saving nothing at all. I do so hate it and can't imagine I'll save much over that.
Will check they have all the details correct first of course.
Picnic is ready for tomorrow. Not very exciting :rotfl: will stick my porridge in tupperware and eat on train with flask of tea so that should help avoid buying on-train snacks.
Tea and snacks and lunch at meeting all day (might even see if I can swipe a spare biscuit or something...)
Might be going out for tea, but tube strike may foil plans :eek: in which case I have a couple of carrot cake muffins, couple of veggie sausages and some satsumas to fuel me and will probably be home by 8 if we don't eat out so I won"t exactly starve :rotfl:
Nowt else to report I don't think. Will check banks etc at weekend - not spending anything sure does make doig ynab a lot easier!! :rotfl:0 -
Hope the picnic goes well on the train and yay to polished shoes. I'm trying to get more organised on week days.
So far, I'm not doing so well, but I am trying.
Have a good one and have a hug for 'troublesomeness' glad its ok now.Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there. :beer:
Total debt as of 28/4/19 £7867.38:eek:
minus 112.06 = £7755.32:money:
:money:Sleeves up folks.:money:0 -
Polished shoes don't happen very often in my house! :rotfl:
Train picnic started in fiasco - couldn't get lid off my own flask and had to sheepishly ask refreshment trolley man to do it:rotfl: :rotfl:
Couldn't get the lid off yesterday either :eek: but I persisted and managed after about 10 mins. But today I've actually given myself an ACTUAL BLISTER and broken the skin at the bottom of my finge which is really sore :rotfl:
Never happened before - maybe i've picked up the wrong lid?? Or maybe I just dont know my own strength when screwing it on :rotfl:
Idiot.
Hoping rest of day passes without incident :rotfl:0 -
Good grief! The screwing on tightly thing actually sounds like my dad, who used to screw things on so tightly they broke :rotfl: it became quite entertaining :rotfl:
You're on an intercity! So there's room to sit and eat porridge - good stuff! I always imagine terribly overcrowded commuter trains, I'm glad you're not on one of those.
Good luck in the meeting2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I was wondering how you'd got the blister...glad to have an explanation but ouch - I wonder if you have got the lids muddled then - that's possible.
Tube strike looks *ok* at the moment so fingers crossed...there are a fair number of trains running, more than I think they expected.
I shall ensure to look at and note your polished shoes...well unless you've drowned in a puddle of gin by the time I get there... :rotfl:;)🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Apart from my poor finger
:rotfl: still hurts now! :rotfl:
Odd week, some good, some needs dealing with but ok. Busy! But stuck largely to meal plans and frugal spending :money:
Weekend plans involve DIY... Mr Cheery and I are going to pop to the WI cafe in a bit - not sure whether that's flouting our own Uber Frugal January rules... but it's the ONLY time we've been out for breakfast all month (usually go once a week), there's£8 of the meagre amount we put into treats budget left, and tea is only 80p a mug
Need to get DIY supplies so hoping starting with cake for breakfast will set us up nicely :rotfl:
So, DIY things:
* seal round bath - this was very first DIY thing I did a couple of years ago so now feels like we're going round in circles and will never get out:rotfl: but I had a long shower last night and water came through into next room :eek: :eek: hoping this will fix as do NOT wamt to take side of bath off now it's finally finished properly :eek:
* paint bits I plastered in spare room (prob need 3 coats)
* paint kitchen ceiling
* varnish/tile behind kitchen sink
* maybe paint spare room floorboards - will depend if i get walls finished first
Other stuff
*banks/ynab
* meal plan and shopping list
* make soup and bread for work
* bake for work
* washing
* blog post
That's it i think! :j have a good one all, don't get too wet! :j0 -
We have proper sunshine here! And I've put washing on the line! It isn't drying much, mind you :rotfl: but I'm hopeful it can be out there a while.
Good luck with the DIY - the building work I had done last year made the side of the bath look very prettyand I know what you mean about hating to disturb it!
2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I've got some sealant and will be sealing round the bath this very afternoon
Hopefully that'll sort it...
Nice morning and need to confess to spending £3.05 the treats budget on 2 mugs of tea, two rounds of toast, a bit of fruit cake and a flapjack - which I think can be described as 'rather a bargain'
Popped to the DIY shop but they didn't have what we want so that particular job will have to wait.
Just rustled up an omelette (MUCH easier since we found one of those microwave things in a charity shop) and eating flapjack and then will crack on with the painting :j
Oh! The charity shop was having a 'fill a bag for £5' day :eek: A HUGE bag too, one of their own donation bags :eek: Said they'd had SO many donations after Christmas that they just needed to get rid of some stuff so they could move again in the stock room :rotfl: We did have a good poke around and in the old days I would have gone for it (there was an EWM jumper that was ok, and some gloves, and maybe a scarf, and maybe a cardi, and I could have had a couple of books...) but really, nothing I would have actually *bought* without that deal - certainly not in Uber Frugal January...
So we said thank you and walked away :j
Also couldn't face having to find somewhere to put everything I bought :rotfl:
Right - painting! :j0
