  • Just catching up - very glad to hear the garage found, and sorted that problem with the car as that sounds rather nasty! Totally agree about not talking to garages being a good thing too - there's nothing quite like that sinking feeling you get when they say "Well....we've found the problem..." Good also that it's come in within your budget for it all - can't ask for more than that, eh?!

I'm not counting my chickens until I have it back in my sticky mitts :D But yes, good that it's still just about under budget... for now... :D

(actually, it's pretty easy to count my chickens - None :( We had some chicken pals at the school up the road that we used to visit, but they appear to have gone, along with thier little house. All quite sad!)

    Not much to report today:

£3 bus fares, £20.40 train fare

Actually, good heavens, is that it?? Crikey, I do believe it might be! Which, under my rules, counts as a NSD!! :j :j :j :j I don't count work travel as I have no choice over that (and budget separately) but I have spent NOTHING else!

What a nice way to end the month :j :j :j

(well, I realise the month doesn't end til tomorrow :rotfl: but you know what I mean :D )

Off work tomorrow :j :j Doing a long run in the morning, then spending the afternoon sorting car stuff - collecting new one, clearing out old one and scrapping it, then reclaiming tax and insurance etc.

Really don't think we'll get much scrap - best quote I found was £150 but I have no idea where that was from and can't find it again :o Got one for £400, until I put in all the things that were wrong with it and it reduced to £96 :o :rotfl: We'll see.

Eek - forgot my free-tea-and-cake-at-John-Lewis voucher!! I it daft to take a special trip to town just to use that?? :rotfl:

    Right - payday today! :j :j :j

11 mile run to fit in this morning (and I'm very slow so it takes a long time :o :rotfl: ). Also got to get the new car, and get rid of the old car.

First though, off to do some financial buttling while my porridge goes down :D :j Back in a bit...

Oops, mild panic there for a second - until I remembered I DID get round to ringing HR and my wages have gone into the joint account  :o :rotfl:

    Right.

Some jiggling about done and we now have:

    Ordinary savings account

£160 car maintenance fund (for insurance, tax, MOT etc) all the recent stuff is coming from the savings account as I'm counting it as 'initial purchasing costs' :D
£80 for annual bills (TV licence, house insurance)
£200 house repair (good job, need to ring the roofer again)
£200 for our first No Quibble weekend away of the year :j :j
£200 holiday fund (although since we've decided to have our main annual holiday in 3 weeks time the rest will have to be pinched from elsewhere...)

Have also added £343.50 to long term savings account:
    £50 normally budgeted for
    £27 savings from gas/electric bill
    £50.50 water bill (doesn't charge Dec-March)
£116 council tax (doesn't charge Feb/March, although I've now changed it to 12 monthly so it will next year)
£100 from work travel budget (I allow £200, but I'm missing the last week of the month due to being on holiday :D and we're doing lots of fieldwork where the travel is already paid, so won't be travelling to office as much as normal)

    :j :j :j :j :j

I've allowed us £50 for diesel this month - we're going on holiday towards the end so we'll have to top up then, but I'm hoping £50 will MORE than do us (now we have a new more efficient car :D ) and will cover days out as well as ordinary running about :j

Most important thing is that I have £200 spending money for my very own self :D

This does NOT cover food, travel to work, joint treats (takeaway/cafe lunch that we both decide on)

It DOES cover clothes, cakes, days out with pals, chocolatey treats, unnecessary cups of tea at train stations, lunches at work if I haven't been bothered to pack my own, books, magazines, flowers, drinkins in pubs etc etc

*This* is what I cover with my NSD attempts - it's the money I find very easy to fritter, and it's where I waste the most... Don't want to completely deprive myself, it's for spending after all! :T but I would like to get to the end of the month without stealing from the joint account :p

I'm going to be brave and aim for 5 NSDs in March :j :j :j

Those are great long term savings, Cheery, that you're putting over! And I like the focus on *what* you address with the NSDs, thats fair enough. Its for spending, but even for that, you probably want to get the most bang for your buck :)

Good luck for your run this morning. Savings are looking good.

Hope the car doesn't cost you too much more when you pick it up x

£178 starnac, but at least it blithering works now!! :j

Hopefully got someone coming to collect the old one this afternoon... Already printed off form to reclaim tax, and have insurance phone number ready for when they've gone :j :j

Rang roofer - he's coming one day this week to replace a slate and remove the nearly-falling-off-chimney. Can't remember if he said £200 or £300...

Have also ordered a new Tosco clubcard, and a nectar card, which I've been meaning to do for ages.

Oh, and I spent £51 of my £200 spends entering a bloody triathlon   :rotfl: :rotfl:

I've just been paid and am eyeing up the Cardiff half in October (£35!!) best not tell hubby ;)

A tri sounds exciting though. Not sure I could do the swim part. What's the distance for each?

Glad your car is back and hope the other one goes soon. to nearly falling off chimneys though
