living with a housefull of 'the other s3x'?

I have 3 boys, I love them to bits. They two youngest live at home and have always been encouraged to help around the house, which the 18 year old does, but the 16 year old is a slob...and their father isn't any better....

Do you EVER 'get used to' man smells, burping, farting, swearing, untidyness, laziness, selfishness?

I grew up with a younger sister, Mum and Dad. My Dad was raised as an only child and was close to his Mum and was always clean and tidy, the worst thing he ever did was cough, although he didnt do domestic stuff, he was always doing some sort of repair to the house so you couldn't call him lazy...

Are you outnumbered by the other sex? How do you cope?
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

I have no sense of smell, never have had. At times it's a nuisance but with 2 sons and reading posts like this I'm glad at times I don't :)

Yes, why do boys rooms smell..? :rotfl:

A class-mate at college had 4 sons, and he said they had the !!!!!! channel going 24/7. I'm not sure I could put up with that, whether I was outnumbered by males in the house or not!!

With regard to housework, I find boys/men prefer big jobs like cleaning the oven, to pottering about doing little jobs here and there.

I have four sons and a husband and they are an alien species.....

Do you ever get used to it? You learn to pick your battles, and learn to get the message across exactly where your limits of patience with them lie. You often have to re draw the boundaries when they fall back, and you savour the peace when they are all out!!
  • Outnumbered in my house by males (12, 16 and my lovely hubbie) and I'm amazed at how laid back I've had to become about tidiness and smells etc!

The laziness drives me around the twist (especially teenage laziness) and I've had to have a few house meetings regarding male attitude.

I get really fed up with having to buy anything for me in pink or the rest of the house think they can have it - pink kindle cover, pink earphones, pink deodorant, pink wellies etc.

But as long as they leave my stuff alone and give me a bit of space when I ask for it, its not too bad.

The boys rooms though ....... toxic.
This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
    Fingers crossed x

My husband and my son are both neat freaks, it's my daughter and I who are the slobs. I've completely given up making the bed, shutting the curtains etc as DH simply goes round afterwards and re-does them because they are not tidy enough.

He doesn't often wash up, but irritatingly he will carefully stack all the dirty dishes - in the time it takes to do that, he could wash them!

I'm outnumbered but got used to it, it's always been that way:D the bedroom smell as the door opens in the morning:eek: the rest you just get used to/ ignore, no one here is necessarily untidy, they all have Sunday jobs and get heavily guided to house rules and how to obey them;)

I have a few friends outnumbered by their sons,All bar one has lost their sense of femininity. By that I mean they tend to dress in a less "girly" way and tend not to bother som much with hair and makeup. I think a daughter can help keep a mum interested in fashion and on the right lines.
Boys smell, yup, and their manners can be awful, but I blame myself for allowing that to happen.
With two girls and one boy, I let him away with far more than the girls ever got away with!

That isn't my experience at all. I am very girly, I always wear make up and heels, and I have my hair and nails done at least monthly. I do wear trousers a lot though does that count? My friends with just sons are the same way.

I thought I might be stirring up a bit of denial posting.
It was a it of a broad generalisation I agree but based on my experience!

I live with DH and three grown up (ish) sons. I think if you let them get away with all that negative stuff then they will carry on - start young and train them well, bit like puppies and you reap the rewards later. :)
