Hmm. Spitting image. Life of Brian. Not the Nine O'clock News...
I'm sure I can come up with plenty more offensive shows which had merit...
The point being that banning something for being "offensive" isn't really defensible. You can hardly breathe without offending somebody. The question is usually whether they have reasonable cause to be offended, and whether that offence is a good reason to prevent a performance.
I would normally err on the side of freedom of speech, personally...
  • Speaking of which, what do you think of those who banned that merry little ditty, Blurred Lines?

Laughing stock, medieval, puritanical, zealots, bigots...etc?

Didn't realise it had been banned!
The way I look at it is unless something is actively inciting hatred, violence, or the likes then there is no reason for banning it. I find it offensive that there are politicians in Stormont who have blood on their hands but I have to live with it. Sh.1t happens some times. You just have to deal with it.
  • I see "Only six tickets were left unsold at 21:30 GMT on Tuesday."
If I was in any way cynical about these sorts of things I'd suspect the producers planned this whole thing from the start to get better ticket sales!

Apparently queen's and other students' unions feel it encourages an aggressive attitude to women, which is just as subjective as considering something offensive on religious grounds.

There's a line in "Summer Nights", "did she put up a fight?". Perhaps the students should ban Grease.

People turn out and vote for extremists. You don't like it but you accept it. Isn't it a relief for you to see a councillor showing as much sensitivity to people's feelings l?

If they want to show sensitivity to people's feelings they could make a good start by not wasting public money on religious segregation throughout Northern Ireland. We all have our own Green and Orange facilities be it schools, swimming pools, library's, sports grounds ... Heck look at the money being thrown at football an Gaa stadiums. Ulster Rugby got pittance compared to the other two yet it's probably the most "All inclusive" of the three sports by far! The other two shouldn't get a penny until they become more inclusive and welcoming to the "other community" I couldn't tell you a single catholic I know who would set foot in Windsor Park and likewise a Protestant who would set foot in Casement Park.

That would require Westminster to just make the decision and stick to it. It's been said before - every political party here is socialist, believing every problem can be dealt with by spending public money. Schooling is absurd - a state sector, a catholic centre and now an integrated one to compete with the other two, all publicly funded.

You never know - austerity, such as it is, may lead to rationalisation - and maybe even rationality.
