Unionist councillors are pretty good at it in the council offices which I believe are "council-owned property" one rule for one... one for another !!
Exactly what it was.........., now all they have done is make more people curious about the play, make it even more popular (apparently as stated previously only 150 out of 800 tickets had been sold prior to this fiasco) and make themselves look like Muppets in the process
Have you been to any comedy shows recently.... everyone gets the ar.$e ripped out of them. religion, politics. you name it.... There's always someone will get offended.... it's not like the play is preaching hatred and calling a certain faiths leader the anti-Christ like some of the councils past party members have been on record doing
or naming play grounds after IRA members I suppose.“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0 -

Exactly... They are all as bad as each-other.... do as I say, not as I do!!
But again..... blurring the lines, as we are so good at in Northern Ireland, between Politics and religion ..0 -

So why one to upset those ratepayers who happen to believe the bible?
Is there any evidence to suggest that there was mass outrage among constiuents that the play was being put on?qwert_yuiop wrote: »
I happen to think these councillors are right, whether it's for the wrong reason or not.
It could well be. I havent seen the play - have you? As i said if its "offensive" to a section of the community, then there is valid reason for stopping it being shown. I have no issues with that.
What i have issue with - is that it was banned because it was "blasphemous", ie, the DUP councillers took it upon themselves to ban it, based on their own personal religious beliefs.qwert_yuiop wrote: »
Perhaps they are representing their own faction in a slightly hysterical fashion, but it's either that or annoy the constituents.
Probably a lot of fuss about very little.
Again was there wholesale outrage at the play being put on?
OR did we have a handful of councillors deciding what we should be able to watch, based on THEIR religious views?0 -

Likewise, imagine the outrage there would be if it was a muslim council in belfast who had deemed a play that has been put on world wide as blasphemous.
They'd be seen as a bunch of crackpot extremists.0 -

Gee, i hope that didnt offend anyone?

I think there is a lot of nonsense being spoken in this thread, however the angle as to whether "pointed" humour would be used against other religions other than Christianity has some merit to it.
Yes. Exactly. If it was a muslim council who had deemed some pointed humour "blasphemous" we'd think them all crackpots.0 -
