    Ask! Before replying to your solicitor.

    And if they are going to charge you, then tell your solicitor not to respond. Save yourself the fee. This claim is so ludicrous it does not need/warrant a reply, certainly not if it costs you.

    When I moved in 18 years ago, the vendors very kindly left me a list of useful local numbers: doctor, dentist, odd-job-man, oil boiler engineer etc

    Over the first few weeks I compiled a list of around 10 'problems' similar to yours which needed fixing: a dodgy socket extension, missing ventilation pipe, light switch not working, poorly re-painted utility oom etc...

    Did I write and claim off the vendors? Of course not. I just rang the odd job man and asked him round to quote.

    You should have seen his face as I pointed out each problem I wanted fixed. Turned out he had done the ork in the first place, and here I was saying how shoddy it was and could he fix it! I never received his quote, or saw him again!
