I loved those too, we used to have them for school puddings - I am a Kent girl too. I think they were called cheesecakes cos the coconut looked like grated cheese. I was around 18 before I knew what a "real" cheesecake was
D
That sort of cheesecake was big in Essex too. I used to buy one every week from the bakers at the bottom of our road, as my treat.
I was stunned when I found out what a real cheesecake was !Early retired - 18th December 2014
If your dreams don't scare you, they're not big enough0 -

There was always somebody making/altering clothes, someone doing another craft, then someone else would make cakes and they'd all sit around the table drinking coffee/tea and eating the cakes while talking about things to do with 'family life'.

We used buy 2oz of sweets on the way back to school in the afternoon. A quarter of sweets was an absolute treat, on rate occasions!
pineapple chunks were my favourite but they hurt my mouth after a while because they were very "tart".
Also those chocolate drops with hundreds and thousands in top - they were usually white chocolate. You see them everywhere nowadays :cool:0 -

I must have been odd, because I really liked the Findus Crispy Pancakes. I'm about the only person who liked them!
I remember the yoga programme, but I was into Graham Kerr, the Galloping Gourmet.
wasn't he fired from the show in the end, for some misdemeanour (under the influence while in charge of a casserole ?? !!)
Was he Australian ?? He used to bring a woman up onto the stage from the audience at the end of the show and served her the food he'd cooked - nice table set with table cloths, candles, glass of wine etc. Think he danced with her too (waltz-type).0 -

I think they were called London cheesecakes. When my grandad took us to Victoria Park in east London we'd have a pot of tea and one of these cakes (between the 4 of us !!) at the cafe hut by the lake.
He also took us to Lyons cafe and we had orange squash from one of those big glass tanks that had a whisk type thingy turning inside to keep the stuff diluted. It left our lips bright orange, goodness knows what colour our innards were ! I always wanted a bottle of pop, they had bitter lemon or ginger ale but Grandad said they were too expensive !
To this day, I feel that a bottle of "pop" is a treat.0 -
Going back to children's telly, my favourites were:
Twizzle
Torchy the Battery Boy
Pinky & Perky
Prudence and Primrose
Space Family Robinson (cartoon)
The Flintstones

Lemon Bonbons were like that! Gorgeous, but cut the roof of your mouth to pieces.

Your post has reminded me just how cruel we could be as children! We used to love winding up the owner of our local sweet shop but he never saw the funny side! We all loved our Midget Gems (Lyons of course and I still love them now!) and one day we thought we would play a trick on Mr H. One friend asked for a quarter of Midget Gems so he got out his little steps and climbed up for the box, duly weighed them out, then climbed back up to put the box back. The next friend then also asked for a quarter of Midget Gems. He went red in the face and huffed and puffed back up the steps to get the box down again. Duly weighed a quarter and, before going back up with the box, he looked at me and said "I suppose you want a quarter too?" I said I didn't so he huffed and puffed back up to put the box away. "What do you want then" he asked me. Trying to look the picture of innocence I then said I just wanted 2 oz of them! He looked about to explode but we thought it was hilarious!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -

I've seen Funny Feet lollies recently - I think in Sainsburys.
