  • I loved this. It was a great comfort drink. With hot water it was like mulled wine (but much better) without the alcohol. I was seriously peeved when they withdrew it. In fact, over 10 years on I'm STILL sulking!

Mrs Flu, Copella do a fresh fruit version. Saw it this morning. Stored in the fridge with the apple juice.
  • Pacers - they were about the size of chew it's and were green and white striped. Lovely minty flavours :D

They were Opal Mints before being renamed and striped!

Ki-ora used to do a tropical squash, it was bright green and tasted divine but think they had to stop selling it due to the amount of e-numbers it contained.
I remember a gooey mint filled egg(a bit like a cadburys creme egg but minty), not sure what make it was, my grandad used to buy them just for me.

Spira bars, we were holidaying in Wales when Cadbury first trialled them, think we ate them everyday for a week, then it took them another 6 months or so to roll them out across the country. I was really sad when they stopped making them.

Rounders....Minced beef wrapped in mashed potato and then breadcrumbed. Iceland(when it was Bejams) used to sell these, i loved them, much better than crispy pancakes.
  • I miss St Ivel Lactic cheese (going back a bit) and thin wine biscuits (also going back a bit). The cheese came in a purple box and it was soft, a bit like Boursin but different in a way that matters to me!
  • Jackie, we must be of a similar age (68) no offence meant if you are a lot younger. I remember almost all of the things mentioned in your post. My Nan always buttered the bread before slicing it wafer thin. I always think of her when I slice bread because mine is always on a slope, try as I will to make it straight.

    Candlelight x

Tip: watch the knife, not the bread, and keep it straight down. If the knife is at an angle, so will the bread be.

Birds Appeal - it was a powdered orange juice drink, we used to have it when we went to my nan's for Sunday tea.

Fishmongers with all sorts of dead sea creatures arranged on enormous blocks of ice an trimmed with big bunches of parsley. When I was 6 or so I remember being fascinated by the bright shiny round eyes on the herrings. Granddad lived with us and he bought herrings for his supper - when he was frying them the smell stunk the whole house out !

Our local fishmonger (in Clacton, opposite the coach station if anybody knows the area!) used to have a huge butlers sink of live wriggling eels outside his shop:eek:

  • I miss Lord Toffingham ice lollies. They had a toffee centre covered in icecream - lovely! Funny Feet ice lollies were good too.

I don't miss Vesta curries in a packet or Findus Crispy Pancakes though, ugh!

Anyone else remember Houseparty on the TV? I loved it. I seem to remember a yoga programme too. The yoga programme also released a record so you could practice although you'd have to get up between poses to flip the disc!

Love this thread, so many 60/70s memories.

I used to sit and watch this with my grandma - along with Crown Court and Take the High Road:T
Wasn't there a nun who used to pop in for tea as well?
