Don't you think we can become just a llleeeetttllle too sensitive?
Perhaps we should ban bananas - people can slip on the skins!
i am sorry DFC , but I am going to disagree with you..... yes people can slip ( I knew someone who died of after slipping on ice) BUT there are things I do so as not to cause needless accidents., or compound a simple incident, (just by being careful)
Cutlery, points down in the dishwasher is one, handing scissors with closed points towards me is another. I put away needles after use, cold water in the bath first, flexes in the kitchen in are tucked away.....no three year olds here either!
mmmmmmm plenty others . I wear the seat belt in buses (not required by law).
What percentage ...... would it matter how small, if you knew some one who died for something so simple as falling onto knife placed one way when any other way and all they would be suffering from would be a bruised ego!

My first dishwasher was a Hotpoint and the basket got holes in it after a year or so!. Bought a Bosch second time round and the cutlery basket is still as good as new after about 6 years. Maybe you should write to Bosch or Miele and ask if they can sell you one of their (better quality) baskets.0

No chance of this happening with our new dishwasher. The door doesn't even stay open on it, as soon as you let go it springs closed! My other half has trapped his fingers twice. how this is safe we'll never know.:idea:I got an idea, an idea so smart my head would explode if I even began to know what I was talking about:idea:0 -

That's reassuring my first was a Hotpoint and I replaced it a year ago with a Bosch...0 -

If it is still under guarantee you could call in their service engineer to adjust it. The book for mine says the door should stay where it's put.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. I've cut myself several times on knives that Colin has put handle first into the cutlery basket of the dishwasher ...
My three year old is more than capable of opening the dishwasher door all by himself. In fact, I'm thinking of renaming him Harry Houdini, cos the little whatsit gets into everything.

What bugs me is that the cutlery baskets in dishwashers only last a few months before they get holes in the bottom where the plastic mesh wears out, and knives fall though affecting the wash. Does anyone have any ideas for a cheap but more practical replacement ?
I have used two methods both worked great
1) cable tie weave
2) tooth floss works great
saved me buying a new basket and wasting detergent and vinegar.mmmm something0 -
The cable tie is a good idea.
Not so sure about the floss though because if that comes off it could slip through the mesh and start tangling up the pump. Shouldn't in theory I know - but then theory ain't always what it's cracked up to be.
Welcome to MoneySaving, have fun!

Years ago, you used to be able to buy the plastic versions of these :
They looked a bit like this but were round :
I must be fortunate, the cutlery thingy in my dishwasher is made of strong plastic. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
